We were lucky to catch up with Dagmar Spremberg recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dagmar, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I grew up in Germany and never felt that I belonged. I got married, worked a great job in the music industry, and when I turned 30 I had the inner call of Now or Never, so I left my job, my husband and moved to Los Angeles, without knowing anybody there. When I arrived I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life, but looking back, it was the scariest, but best decision of my life. I found yoga there, reinvented myself a few times, moved to New York City and finally to Costa Rica, where I was a pioneer and started a yoga studio and retreat business in a small beach town in 2003, when everybody thought I was crazy. Yoga has taught me to take risks, to stay open, to trust and jump into the unknown.

Dagmar, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My life has been anything but ordinary.
When I turned 30, I followed my inner call and left Germany — trusting that life had something greater in store. That journey took me first to Los Angeles, then to New York, before I found my way to Costa Rica, where I stayed for 25 years. There I became a pioneer in the yoga world, building a retreat business from the ground up and falling deeper in love with this practice, on and off the mat.
Now rooted in the beauty of Mallorca, I bring with me a lifetime of experience, hard-won wisdom, and an unshakeable belief that what is truly meant for you will always find you — if you have the courage to trust the journey.
Yoga has been my anchor through it all. It has taught me that real strength lives in softening, that vulnerability is not weakness but wisdom, and that we grow most beautifully in the right community. I am passionate about conscious communication, about keeping our inner spark alive, and about helping people build their own toolkit to move through life’s transitions with grace, trust and ease.
I believe it is never too late — and never too early — to live a full, authentic and courageous life. That is the energy I bring to every retreat and every conversation. I lead international yoga retreats and events since 2012 and have also a somatic training, as well as being a pro age mentor, working with women going through midlife, menopause and life transitions. With over 25 years of teaching yoga and serving my international community I stand for softening and authentic living that inspires others to ignite their inner spark and take risks as well.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency and authenticity. I always showed up, no matter what was going on in my life. In my teachings I didn’t pretend, but rather created and held spaces for people to come together and be real and honest. To feel seen and share their truth. I always shared my own story and learnings, which were practical and inspirational to others. I wasn’t afraid of showing my own vulnerability, which I consider also being my strength. In 2005 I released my first two yoga videos on YouTube, without believing there would be any demand. Both videos gained over 1 million views each, and up to this day people refer to them as their favorite videos. I was not afraid to take risks and to stay curious. I have build an international community over 20+ years, which surely helped my reputation. So I would name resilience, courage, vulnerability, authenticity as the main qualities.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2021 my studio in Costa Rica was closed, because the hotel where it was located went out of business. From one day to another I lost my successful yoga studio of 20 years, which also was my community and financial stability. It was a big deal, but I soon realized that it needed to happen, because it was already not in alignment anymore with the hotel business. I just kept going, ignoring red flags, because I was very attached to it. It was what I was doing for 20 years and I was very identified with it. Losing this first threw me off completely. After a while I saw a chance in it to start all over again and actually move back to Europe. So for the past 4 years I have been shifting my life from Costa Rica to Mallorca, Spain, where I now live and create yoga events and retreats. Of course, turning 60 years old this year, and being in Menopause since 10 years hasn’t really made it easy, but I jumped into the unknown once more and followed an inner call from Mallorca to make it happen somehow. I’m now living in my dream place on the island, the place I fell in love with 2 years ago, and am proud for having created this new opportunity for myself. I’m networking and creating new friendships and community here and it feels already like home.
