We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daga Kawalec a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Daga, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Think Big or go home. While arriving in the United States in 2002 I knew I want to explore this beautiful country. I wasn’t sure if I would stay but I asked myself a question; if this is going to be my American Dream then I must do it right! I didn’t know how…yet, but I knew I will give my 100% to it. The scariest option in life is sometimes the best for us, for our growth, maturity, learning more about ourselves. I was ready to take the risk of staying by myself in a country I knew so little about leaving my family and friends behind in Europe. I remember joining the Chamber of commerce in Scottsdale while being the youngest member at the meetings and learning new vocabulary, new business ways from the best. Several very succesful businesses men and woman gave me the confidence to pursue my vision. Even though I have experienced many challenges in my business as well as my personal live I kept going in knowing that I am capable of creating the vision that was so close to my heart. I didn’t look at the negative aspects, sacrifice, sleepless nights, being away from my family. I believed in what I am creating is very valuable and I knew who I am, the quality I want to represent. At the moment my sofas can be seen at the Netlix, Prime Movies, shows, on the big screen; at the Theatres, Resorts, Museums, Medical spas, Boutiques, Casinos, Event centers, Private residences and across not only across the United States, Canada but also Europe & the Middle East.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My full name is Dagmara, I was born and raised in Poland in a family that was in a furniture industry. I was exposed to the furniture production, design and manufacturing process at an early age which gave me the understanding of the furniture business. Designing, building and creating upholstered sofas became my passion. According to one of my first clients in Scottsdale Az I’ve had the eye for design, color, quality in furniture and interiors. I was chosen by my client to help design a sofa and that’s how it all started in Arizona. My clients not only receive a high quality, unique and customized piece but also the personalized guidance, advise on the details, color, fabric choice, size of the sofa. Every piece by Celebrity Furnishings is made especially for our client with the attention to detail, high quality construction, overseen by myself from start to finish. I want my clients to love their furniture and enjoy them for years to come! I am very proud of the feedback from my clients; as long as they love what they receive from me I want to continue our work and expend into production but keep our quality and personalized service, attention and customer service. We are a small family business and we are good friends as well. We treat each other with respect, understanding, unity, care; just like we want to be treated. We grow together in those values knowing how lucky we truly are doing what we love!
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process./
I grew up in a family of furniture makers and have seen furniture being made from wood selection, design, carving, upholstering. My team custom mades every piece by hand with me overseeing every step.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe in high quality product as well as customer service. My clients appreciate my personal attention and attention to detail. I want every single sofa to meet my high standards before I show it to my clients. They deserve the best and I treat them as I would like to be treated.
