We were lucky to catch up with D Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
D, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
As a salon professional, I have the privilege of raising awareness of the importance of foot health. Upon arrival, guests undergo a foot examination to ensure proper sensation and healthy feet. The most surprising fact for most guests is that a traditional pedicure, which uses plastic bowl liners, does not guarantee safety. The pedicure bowl is only safe after the jets are removed, disinfected, and sanitized. Additionally, pumice stones, toe separators, and other items are strictly for one-time use and are not reusable. This revelation usually leaves guests in shock, but it’s essential to provide them with information to make informed decisions and take proactive steps for their well-being. Armed with this knowledge, guests are empowered to make safer choices & understand the risk when receiving pedicures.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
With many career paths available, making the right choice can be daunting. For me, I chose to pursue nail technology. Originally, I had planned to study hair but found the class was full. In retrospect, I would have focused on pedicures earlier in my career. Despite this, I have no regrets and would pick the same profession again.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I believe in being true to myself and not being afraid to go against the grain. It’s like giving my imagination a boost and letting it roam free, without any rules. It’s exciting to do things differently and not worry about what’s expected. This attitude gives me the courage to tackle tasks in my own unique way, all while staying confident and fearless.”
