We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cyntoni Miller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cyntoni, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Black On The Job, as its name implies, is a career advancement organization solely dedicated to Black people.
Black On The Job is a fulfillment of a dream I have nurtured since childhood. Literally.
As a young girl who grew up in Compton, a city with one of the lowest educational systems in California, I had a firsthand experience of the effects of a lack of access to resources on Black homes.
When I went off to Howard University and gained a broader perspective, I experienced a transition from being in a Black community that was not doing well into one that was prosperous and noted that the gap between both came from education and resources.
Racial economic disparity is not new to the Black community. This is an issue that Black households have grappled with for decades. Systemic racism contributes to the persistence of socio-economic gaps, making it hard for Black communities to achieve economic security.
Black people face occupational segregation and systematic inequality in corporate America (and all over the world), with little to no access to career development opportunities.
Historically wide disparities in how Black people are treated in the workplace and passed over for chances at advancement birthed the vision of a company/community dedicated to balancing the scales.
Workplace discrimination is only one of many issues Black people continue to grapple with. Difficulties getting approved for housing in upscale communities and more have also kept us in impoverished neighborhoods with limited access to resources.
In June 2018, Black On The Job co-founder (Saidou Diallo) and I took the leap and got started on making our vision a reality.
In our quest to make services affordable for our target demographic, we have kept our prices at one-third of industry rates.
It was quite rough in the first and second years of the company. But our vision kept us forging on. Every “I got the job!” post was a realization of our dreams and a reason to forge ahead.
Our hand-picked team of the best and brightest hail from Black communities all over the world and is made up of highly skilled people in different areas of career development. Fondly referred to as the Bee Team, this extraordinary set of people share the company’s vision of aiding Black people globally in achieving their socio-economic goals and disrupting economic outcomes for the community.
The company continues to offer budget-friendly career services such as resume services, career coaching, LinkedIn services, interview preparation services, and more – all carefully designed to aid Black people in closing the socio-economic gap.
However, our prices aren’t the only thing that sets us apart from other companies with similar offers. We make sure that we consciously remain a mirror in our community, and we also connect our clients to form a nurturing and lasting support system.
We have a Facebook group where people post their “I got the job!” stories and can access a wide range of free career resources such as sample resumes, thank you letters, cover letters, resignation letters, interactive career lives, and more. We make sure that our jobbees (as we fondly refer to our clients) continue to be supported long after they have received their initial services.
It’s been a long road of trials and triumphs – and it’s been totally worth it. Every week, we are inundated with several amazing testimonials from bees who have experienced varying degrees of breakthroughs in their career journey.
And if I had to do it all again, I would choose this path over and over.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Fondly known as “Admin Cyn”, my name is Cyntoni Miller and I am the CEO and co-founder of Black On The Job, a fast-growing career-building organization for Black people.
Historically wide disparities in how Black people are treated in the workplace and passed over for chances at advancement birthed the vision of a company dedicated to balancing the scales. Black On The Job is passionate about the advancement of Black people in corporate America and all over the world.
My mission of change and empowerment for Black communities continues to be the driving force behind the company’s array of carefully crafted career development services aimed at lifting Black people to meet and exceed middle-class status.
Since the company’s inception in 2018, we have contributed to the career growth of over 60,0000 members with approximately $75M (and counting) in increased salaries globally, yet we are undeterred and as motivated as ever.
I have hosted 100+ career development workshops, many of which are taught weekly via Facebook live where 60,000+ members of our Facebook group (Black On The Job with Admin Cyn) get to participate for free and receive complimentary career manuals and workbooks.
I have also hosted several training classes and career intensive workshops for Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, government agencies, and universities.
Black On The Job has been instrumental to the successful transition of several Black people into various fields, many of whom are already earning 6-figures in their roles.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
