We recently connected with Cynthia Wolent and have shared our conversation below.
Cynthia, appreciate you joining us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
It all started with a love for celebrating life’s moments and wanting to create something bigger than just balloons — I wanted to design experiences. The idea came to me when I realized how much joy and impact a single backdrop or installation could bring to a room. The very next step was testing the waters: I ordered supplies, practiced designs in my living room, and started sharing photos on social media.
In the beginning, it was a lot of trial and error. I had to figure out how to price my services, where to source quality materials, and how to make my work stand out in a growing industry. I spent hours researching vendors, watching tutorials, and reaching out to friends and family to do small setups for practice. Slowly but surely, word spread. In 2020, COVID shut down our country, but my balloon business blew up (nopun intended!)
It was a whirlwind — balancing creativity with learning the business side. I set up my business legally, built a website, and invested in professional equipment and rentals to expand what I could offer. Each event taught me something new about logistics, client communication, and how to scale up. What started as a spark of an idea turned into a company that now serves weddings, corporate events, baby showers, and everything in between.
Looking back, it was a mix of passion, persistence, and a lot of late nights figuring things out one step at a time that allowed me to turn the dream of Poppin Luxe Designs into the reality it is today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Cynthia, the owner and creative director behind Poppin Luxe Designs, a balloon and event rental company based in Taunton, MA. I’ve always had a love for celebrating life’s special moments, and what started as a creative spark quickly turned into a passion-driven business. I saw how balloons could completely transform a space and bring so much joy, and I knew I wanted to build something that went beyond just décor — I wanted to create full experiences for people.
Today, Poppin Luxe Designs specializes in luxury balloon installations, custom backdrops, sequin walls, marquee numbers, themed events, and premium event rentals for everything from weddings and corporate events to baby showers, birthdays, and milestone celebrations. We also offer add-ons like favors creation, custom logos, event signage, flower walls, face painting, and kid’s activity packages — making us a one-stop shop for clients who want a polished, stress-free, and Instagram-worthy event.
The problems we solve are twofold: first, we take away the stress of event planning by handling all the design details; second, we help clients make their celebrations unforgettable, with décor that leaves a lasting impression on both them and their guests. What sets us apart is the balance we bring — our work is playful and fun, but it also has a luxe, polished feel that elevates any event. We put an emphasis on personalization, ensuring each event reflects the client’s vision while adding our creative expertise.
What I’m most proud of is how far the business has come — from practicing balloon designs in my living room to now being trusted with weddings, corporate activations, and milestone events for families, colleges, nonprofits, and businesses across New England. I’m also proud of the relationships we’ve built with our clients; many come back to us for multiple life events, which means the world to me.
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to know, it’s that Poppin Luxe Designs is more than just balloons — we’re here to bring your vision to life, to create joy, and to make your celebrations as seamless and magical as possible. Every event we do holds a special place in our hearts, and we’re honored to be part of so many incredible memories. I genuinely mean that.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Absolutely! Looking back, I wish I had known earlier about the incredible networking groups and communities for event professionals and small business owners. Being around like-minded creatives not only helps you learn new skills but also opens doors to collaborations and referrals that can really grow your business. I also wish I had tapped into business education resources sooner — things like courses on pricing, contracts, marketing, and bookkeeping. The creative side came naturally to me, but it took time to realize how important the back-end systems are for scaling a business.
Another resource I wish I leaned on earlier is social media strategy tools. Learning how to plan content, track analytics, and use the right keywords/SEO has been a game changer for reaching the right clients. Lastly, I’d say mentorship — having someone to guide you through the highs and lows would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

How’d you meet your business partner?
It’s a bit of an unexpected love-and-business story! I actually met my partner, Jose, on a dating app. From the very beginning, he was so supportive of my dreams and vision for Poppin Luxe Designs. What started as a personal connection quickly grew into a true partnership, because he became genuinely invested in seeing me succeed.
As the business began to take shape, Jose naturally stepped in to help — from hauling equipment and managing logistics to brainstorming ideas and cheering me on during the late nights of planning. Over time, his role grew into something so much bigger, and now he’s an essential part of the heart and backbone of the business. Meeting him not only changed my life personally, but it gave me the most unexpected business partner I could’ve asked for.
