We were lucky to catch up with Cynthia Steeble recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cynthia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of sales or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
For many years, I had wanted to create a business that would enable me to give back to women in need of assisitance. In 2020, I literally had a dream with the mission and name of the business. Louise Bentley Jewelry With Purpose is our name, and our mission is to curate and create collections of timeless and on-trend jewelry with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit non-profit organizations dedicated to assisting women in crisis, transition and entering the workforce. Currently, we support: Dress For Success Denver https://denver.dressforsuccess.org/
Bethlehem Havan https://bethlehemhaven.org/

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I graduated from college, I was eager to begin a career in non-profit organizations. I wanted to make a difference and hopefully I did. In 2000, I transitioned into a career in the corporate events world and continued to volunteer with non-profit organizations. There was something missing. The need to create my own vessel to give back. With the COVID global pandemic, this need bubbled to the surface. So many women were needing to leave the workforce to care for and educate their children. In the Summer of 2020, I literally had a dream of what I could create to give back. Thankfully, my dear friend, Katy, agreed to join me and Louise Bentley Jewelry With Prupose was born. We donate a protion of our proceeds to support women in crisis, transition and entering (or re-entering) the workforce. Our jewely collections are curated to appeal to women of all ages. We find those must have statement pieces along with the timeless classic that you will be your daily go tos. I remember early on in my career living in Boston and my friends and I not having much money. Just buying a new pair of earrings was the treat we needed to feel great! Providing that feeling is the goal of Louise Bentley Jewelry With Purpose.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
Having been in the corporate events space, I was familar with motivatiing and incentivizing through providing gifting experiences. A friend introduced me to Dana Chorpenning – Founder of Wet Paint Group (WPG). They create memorable gifting expereinces using a portfolio of premium boutique brands with a commitment to giving back. I thought this is perfect…Taking my experince with corporate events and my jewelry business with a mission to give back to women. The only problem, I had no proven track record. After multiple meetings and proposals, WPG decided to take a chance on Louise Bentley Jewelry With Purpose! Great, now all I have to do is fulfill the order and be on-site to promote myself and my business. I my first thought was I have made it, and my second thought was what was I thinkging? Can I really do this? I will never forget walking into the space to set up for the event. I think I was as nervous as I was my first day of school! Am I smart enough to be here? Will they like me and my jewelry? I am proud to say that everyone was interested in what my business was all about and loved the jewelry pieces that I had curated specifically for them. My pieces were gone by the afternoon of the first day.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The global jewelry industry is more than $300B annually. So, yes, why don’t I start a jewelry business. Most of my friends and family thought this was an insane idea. But I was determined and probably more than a bit stubborn. Louise Bentley Jewelry With Purpose is still very young and growing. From the beginning, our most effective strategy is honestly talking. We just started calling, emailing, texting everyone we knew and told them about our business. We still have much to learn about Social Media and how to build our clientele on these platforms. We have been successful using grassroots marketing tactics. When I stand in front of a small group of women and tell our story and mission, I can literally see light bulbs go off. Oh, we love your jewelry collections and we are supporting women in need and crisis…I am in! Then, you have the rippel effect. They tell more people, and then you present to those people and so it goes.
