We recently connected with Cynthia Spriggs and have shared our conversation below.
Cynthia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My idea to start a jewelry business started with a simple idea in my head, creating unique pieces. I worked part-time at Ann Taylor for years and I would see women purchasing jewelry that was not high quality, no uniqueness to it and it was mass produced. So that means, everyone around the world could have that piece.
I wanted my jewelry to feel special when you wore it. I wanted my customers to know the story behind the piece.
And since I’m a petite women, I needed bracelets that fit my wrist.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a true native of Washington, D.C. I love all things DC. After graduating from Duke Ellington School of the Arts, with a concentration in dance, I attended Virginia State University, Petersburg, Virginia where I studied business administration.
I began my entrepreneurship venture as a teenager when I opened and taught young ladies dance. After realizing my passion for interior design, I continued my entrepreneurship spirit by opening my interior design firm “Elements of Dezign”. I am a certified interior decorator and was an intern on the popular show “Design to Sell”.
While I continue to love interior decorating, in 2016, I turned my creativity into handcrafted jewelry. The birth of 3Shades Chic. My design concept behind the 3Shades Chic brand stemmed from a simple idea…creating unique, handcrafted pieces using a variety of high-quality gemstones, charms, and metals.
I approached my jewelry design venture with an interior design background which gives me a keen advantage in understanding the dynamics of mixing color and texture to create beautiful pieces that are all unique and boasting with personality.
The name 3Shades Chic (3SC) … the “3” represents how many times she handcrafted a 3SC piece. The word “shades” represents the three shades of beautiful women in her family and “chic” embodies the look of the product.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
