Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cynthia Remick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Cynthia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on was the Uncommon Knowledge exhibit for SACCA and Roche Diagnostics. The exhibit paired visual and literary creatives with a Roche patient in order to raise awareness around the importance of early disease diagnosis. I was paired with an incredible woman named Natasha, who shared her story about her diagnosis of breast cancer and her treatment journey. It was very rewarding to be able to shed light on such an important cause and be able to help share her amazing story.
Cynthia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. From an early age, I developed a passion for art and creating things. I began my journey in photography after taking a class in high school, and then furthered my knowledge by taking additional courses in college, combined with teaching myself. I draw inspiration from nature and enjoy finding beauty in the simplicity of everyday life. I mainly take photographs of nature and landscapes, and occasionally portraits. I’m most proud of being able to capture moments and share them with people, it is something that I believe is vitally important in my journey as an artist.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’m driven by my desire to share the beauty that exists in the world with other people. Ever since I was a child, I loved making art and exploring the outdoors, it always brings me a sense of belonging and peace. Being able to create is one of the things that gives me a sense of purpose and allows me to express myself.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think that society should offer more opportunities for artists to show their work and support local artists by purchasing their art and services. Provide spaces where artists are able to collaborate and share their stories with other creatives and audiences. Artists thrive when they are given the chance to harness their passion to create amazing things.
