We were lucky to catch up with Cynthia Pace recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cynthia, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’ve always had this passion to create. Whether that was in crafts or in graphic design class in college, or even in my personal life. I always knew that I wanted to create “stuff”, but I battled between having “official” training or credentials and just doing it. Being a high school drop who didn’t get her GED until she was 25, and then graduated with a bachelors 4 years later, there were a lot of battles between “there’s no way I can do this” versus “heck yes, you can!”
With lots of encouragement from family and friends, I decided to step forward and give it a go! Put myself out there and start creating social media content for people and businesses I knew, and before you know it, I stood up Elevate Media. Countless hours of design, learning new techniques, pushing the limits, standing out from normal trends, I wanted to create a brand that not only allows myself to flex in a creative space, but I also wanted to help bring people’s vision to life.
It’s been two years since I started to really invest into my designs that I’ve had the privilege of shooting and creating content for a few different industries. From fitness to real estate, to small businesses to Indie Authors just to name a few.
If I were leave anyone with anything it would be “Imposter Syndrome is tough, but you’re so much tougher! Take the risk!”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Bringing people’s visions to real life is something I’m passionate about. Whether that’s making a statement or sharing their brand, or even helping bring their small business idea to life, I’ve always had a passion to take what they have in their minds and create it for them!
I’ve had the chance to create brand logos, on site photo shoots, capture some of the coolest video content and even design a published book! To pick something out of all the things to say is my favorite would be so tough! Each piece I work on is very unique to my client, and no two projects have been the same! So it’s safe to say, all the projects I’ve had a chance to work on are my favorite!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect about being a creative is working with people who start off the conversation with “I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for but I do know I want x, y and z” and then turning that into an actual design that is exactly what they are looking for. Now granted, we don’t always hit the bullseye on the first go, which is perfectly fine as I, as a creative need that feedback for my own growth, but working with them and just translating their thoughts to real life, is truly the most rewarding!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Something to share about a creative, just like an author gets “writer’s block”, creatives get “creator’s block”! There are days I could be sitting in front of my computer needing to design something or create a flowing video, and it just doesn’t come to me. There’s no flow, which leads to frustration, and then imposter syndrome sits in. But here’s what I’ll say, TAKE A BREAK!!! We’re human, our brains go a mile or two a minute with life, work, and everything else running through it that sometimes, a break is due! And it’s really okay! Just take you a minute, do something that lights your soul on fire, go get you some ice cream or sit out in the sun and know that block doesn’t stay forever!
