Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cynthia Mattiza. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cynthia, appreciate you joining us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
Back in 2008, I was working in a kitchen and bath showroom as an assistant to a showroom consultant. My role was to make sure orders were properly placed, create design guides ( now known as mood boards), handle procurement and all assistant type related roles. I recall one day my boss asking me about a specific task being completed, and I responded, I assume so? Her immediate response, was never assume. You can probably tell what comes after that. Regardless, it was a lesson that I take to this day still.
Another lesson learned, was I recall taking a class about providing customer service, and how Nordstrom has paved the way with their policies. In my business, one of the key traits that sets other realtor professionals apart is their service and it’s directly correlated to my success over the past 15 years.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got my license in January 2010. It was shortly after the 2008 financial crisis and at the time, I was 24 years old. I had recently gotten married and knew that my job working at a kitchen and bath showroom was not the direction I wanted to go. I knew that my strengths were to be out meeting people, and having more control over my time. I had already understood a bit of residential construction, so heading into the real estate industry felt natural. I had not idea how wrong I was about “having control over my time” because as a new agent, I was at the beckon call of any lead that would come my way.
Fast forward to 2024, I’m about to celebrate 15 years in the industry this January. I look back at that pivotal time in my career and so thankful that I started when I did. I’ve seen highs and lows of the markets, I experienced peaks of my career with the mass migration of people moving to Texas in 2020, while also then navigating the slower market seaons. I’m so thankful for the tribe of friends, past clients, industry partners who support me, cheer for me and help grow my business. It truly is a team effort.
Few things that set me apart is true market + industry knowledge. I have 15 years of experience under my belt. My husband and I have built our homes, renovated our investment properties and I truly do understand how home are built. This knowledge is so helpful to clients. I also take tremendous pride in knowing how to read people’s energy and intentions. I can take control of the situation, but know when is time to sit back and just listen.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I’ve been in Austin since 2008. In this time I’ve been well connected in my industry and within my community. I’m so thankful to have joined The Junior League of Austin back in 2010. This opened the door to so many incredible friendships and the leadership training I received has been so valuable.
Over the years, I’ve been apart and volunteered my time with many non profits. Those introductions. led me to incredible connections that have helped build and shaped my life and career.
Fast forward to 2020, my husband and I had built our home and moved to Bee Cave. Since then, I’ve spent the past four years really developing and deepening our roots in the area. I think that my reputation as a local expert has truly correlated to the connections I’ve made here. My kids go to the local elementary and I volunteer there at least once a week. I do my best to support the local business that are established here. It’s really important that I live the motto, “I live here, I give, here and I sell here”. When selling a lifestyle, your reputation is key. Your customers have to trust you and your knowledge.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Back in 2015, I was approached by a newer agent who had just started getting her business going. Carlisle Kennedy was my first team member, She came on as buyer’s agent and I then went on maternity leave when I had my first daughter. Fast forward to 2019 I grew my team with a few more members. Benee Arndt was dear friend and had been in the industry for a while. A few years later, Betsy Smith joined aswell. Together we had built The Eberly Group and focused on the Texas Hill Country market. We’ve been awarded Platinum Top 50 many times, and made the Austin Business Journal’s small team list.
Having founded The Eberly Group has been profound in delegating, managing and treating our team like a business. We each rotate roles where our strengths shine.
