We recently connected with Cynthia Martinez & Jeanette Miranda and have shared our conversation below.
Cynthia Martinez & Jeanette Miranda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Cynthia and Jeanette’s story began through the power of social media—a simple connection that led to something much bigger than they ever imagined. Jeanette had invited Cynthia to be a guest on her podcast, Rooted in Her, where they instantly clicked over their shared passion for empowering women. That’s when Cynthia shared her vision for Taboo Talks: Latina Edition—a platform where Latinas could have raw, real, and unfiltered conversations about the things that often go unspoken in our culture.
Jeanette saw the vision immediately. It wasn’t just aligned with Rooted in Her—it was aligned with her purpose. The idea of breaking taboos, dismantling generational cycles, and being a voice for Latinas everywhere was something that resonated deeply with both of them. And with that, they decided to build something together.
In the week of Thanksgiving, Taboo Talks: Latina Edition officially launched on YouTube. What started as an idea between two women who had never even met in person turned into a thriving community—one that instantly received overwhelming support, subscribers, and engagement. The messages, the views, the shares—it all confirmed one thing: this was just the beginning.
At its core, Taboo Talks is about breaking free. Breaking free from generational trauma. From the expectations placed on who we should be, what career we should choose, how we should raise our kids, and how we show up for ourselves. These conversations aren’t just important—they’re necessary.
Each week, they invite powerful Latina voices to the table, discussing the topics that impact them daily—the struggles they carry, the victories they celebrate, and the realities they navigate. But Taboo Talks is more than just episodes—it’s a movement. From hilarious, relatable reels that capture the beauty, chaos, and humor of our culture to the serious, deep conversations that remind Latinas everywhere you are not alone.
And here’s the craziest part? Cynthia and Jeanette built this entire platform without even meeting in person. Every Zoom call, every script, every strategy session, every reel—they made it work across distance, proving that when something is meant to be, nothing can stop it.
Five months later, they finally met in person. The bond? Stronger than ever. The vision? Bigger than before.
Today, Taboo Talks: Latina Edition has over 760 subscribers on YouTube, with videos consistently reaching over 1K+ views. And Cynthia still asks every day: “Who are these people?! We want to meet them all!”
But one thing is clear—this is just the start. The start of something much bigger than an idea.
This is a community. A sisterhood. A movement.
And the Taboo Talks era? Is just getting started.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Breaking Barriers, Creating Community: The Story Behind Taboo Talks: Latina Edition
At first glance, Cynthia and Jeanette seem to lead completely different professional lives—Cynthia, a full-time tax accountant and podcast host, and Jeanette, a mindset coach, speaker, and founder of Rooted in Her, a women’s empowerment community. But beyond their day-to-day roles, they share one powerful mission: to create spaces where women—especially Latinas—feel seen, heard, and empowered.
That mission led them to launch Taboo Talks: Latina Edition, a platform dedicated to breaking taboos, challenging outdated cultural norms, and amplifying the real, raw, and often unspoken experiences of Latinas.
How It All Started
Jeanette’s journey into coaching and empowerment started from her own life experiences—navigating challenges, healing from generational trauma, and learning to step into her power unapologetically. Through Rooted in Her, she built a community where women could do the same—embrace their growth, own their stories, and stop playing small in their careers, relationships, and personal development.
Cynthia, on the other hand, found her voice in a different way—through numbers and storytelling. As an accountant, she has built a solid career in finance, but her passion for conversation and connection led her into podcasting. When she and Jeanette connected, they saw an opportunity to merge their strengths and create something that didn’t exist before—a platform that tackled the real, unfiltered conversations Latinas NEEDED to have.
What We Do & Why It Matters
Taboo Talks: Latina Edition is more than a YouTube series—it’s a movement. We bring together Latina voices from all walks of life to discuss topics that deeply impact us but are often brushed under the rug.
We talk about breaking generational cycles, mental health, relationships, entrepreneurship, motherhood, beauty standards, and so much more. These are the conversations we grew up avoiding—topics that in our culture were seen as “mejor no hablar de eso”—but we’re flipping the script.
Through our weekly episodes, we invite powerful Latina guests to share their journeys, challenges, and triumphs. But our work doesn’t stop there. We create engaging, relatable, and often hilarious content—from viral reels that capture the essence of Latino culture to conversations that hit deep and make you feel understood.
Our goal? To make sure that every Latina watching feels like she has a voice, like she’s not alone, and that she has the power to break barriers and define her own path.
What Sets Us Apart?
Structured, but real. Yes, we have a script to guide our conversations, but we don’t hold back. We show up authentically, without filters or pretenses, allowing raw and honest discussions that truly resonate. Our goal isn’t to sound perfect—it’s to be real, relatable, and impactful.
Built on passion and connection. Taboo Talks wasn’t created by a big production team—it was built by two Latinas with a vision, a purpose, and a whole lot of heart. We started this while living in different cities, planning content over Zoom, and making it work with what we had.
We embrace ALL parts of our culture. From deep, necessary conversations about healing and growth to laughing about our tías chismosas and childhood struggles, we bring ALL aspects of the Latina experience to the table. We don’t hold back, because our culture is complex, powerful, and deserves to be fully seen and heard.
What We’re Most Proud Of
The community we’re building. Seeing Latinas resonate with our episodes, share their experiences, and say, “Wow, I thought I was the only one”—that’s everything to us.
The impact we’re making. In just a few months, we’ve grown to over 760 YouTube subscribers, with episodes reaching thousands of views. But more importantly? We’re starting conversations that matter.
Breaking taboos that have held us back for generations. We’re done with staying quiet. We’re done with following rules that weren’t made for us. We’re here to rewrite the narrative for ourselves and future generations.
What We Want Our Followers to Know
You are not alone. Whatever you’re going through—we’ve been there, too. This platform is for YOU.
Your story matters. Whether you’re a Latina breaking barriers in your career, navigating motherhood, or trying to unlearn generational beliefs, your experience deserves to be heard.
We’re just getting started. Taboo Talks: Latina Edition isn’t just a show—it’s a movement, and we can’t wait to see where it goes next.
Join the conversation. Subscribe to our YouTube, follow us on social media, and let’s continue to have the real, raw, and necessary conversations that Latinas everywhere need.
Because what we don’t talk about, we can’t heal. And we’re here to change that.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience: The Heart of Our Journey
Our entire Taboo Talks: Latina Edition journey is a testament to resilience.
Imagine building something from the ground up, with two women who had never even met in person—only connected through a shared vision and a lot of faith. That’s exactly how we started.
Cynthia and Jeanette were both juggling full-time responsibilities—Cynthia as an accountant and podcast host, and Jeanette as a mindset coach, speaker, and founder of Rooted in Her, an empowerment community for women. Add in the everyday demands of life, work, and family, and you’d think launching a whole new platform would be impossible.
But when something is meant for you, you make it happen.
We worked through late nights, early mornings, and countless Zoom calls—writing scripts, recording episodes, strategizing content, and creating viral reels—all while balancing our own personal and professional commitments. There were technical failures, scheduling conflicts, moments of doubt, and times we felt completely drained. But we pushed through, because we knew that what we were building was bigger than us.
One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned? Resilience isn’t just about pushing forward—it’s about adjusting, learning, and staying committed even when things don’t go as planned.
We launched Taboo Talks with no fancy production team, no big budget—just passion, determination, and a deep desire to create a space where Latinas could feel seen and heard. And now? We’re growing faster than we ever imagined, with over 760 YouTube subscribers, thousands of views, and an engaged community that keeps showing up.
For us, resilience is about believing in your vision, even when no one else fully understands it yet. It’s about showing up, even when things feel hard. It’s about breaking the cycle of silence and stepping into your power, no matter where you come from or what challenges you face.
And that’s exactly what Taboo Talks: Latina Edition is about. Breaking barriers. Owning our stories. And proving that our voices matter.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building Our Community: More Than Just Social Media, It’s a Movement
When we launched Taboo Talks: Latina Edition, we weren’t just thinking about numbers—we were thinking about impact. Our mission was clear from the start: create a space where Latinas feel seen, heard, and empowered through real, raw, and necessary conversations.
We knew that if we wanted to reach the women who needed these conversations the most, social media had to be our megaphone.
But here’s the truth: we didn’t overcomplicate it. We focused on showing up authentically, having real conversations, and creating content that Latinas could actually see themselves in—whether it was deep discussions on breaking generational trauma or hilarious reels about our tías chismosas and childhood struggles.
We built our audience organically, by staying true to our message and making sure everything we posted reflected our mission—whether it was a full podcast episode or a quick reel that made you laugh and say *“Wow, that’s so me.”
Our Advice for Those Starting Out?
Know your mission before you focus on numbers. Social media isn’t just about followers—it’s about building a community that connects with what you have to say. If you’re clear on who you’re talking to and why, the right audience will find you.
Create content that resonates. We ask ourselves with every post: Does this make someone feel seen? Does it spark a conversation? Does it bring value—whether that’s inspiration, education, or laughter? If the answer is yes, we post it.
Engage, don’t just post. We don’t just create—we connect. We respond to comments, we interact with our audience, and we make sure the women who follow us know they are part of this conversation.
Be consistent, but don’t burn out. Growth takes time. It’s easy to get caught up in the pressure of posting every day, but quality > quantity. We found our rhythm and focused on staying present, not perfect.
Trust the process. When we started, we had no idea we’d grow as fast as we did. But we believed in our mission, we stayed true to our voice, and now, Taboo Talks is reaching thousands of women who needed this space.
At the end of the day, it’s not about going viral—it’s about making an impact. And that’s what keeps us showing up every single day.
