We recently connected with Cynthia Mackintosh and have shared our conversation below.
Cynthia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve always considered myself creative. However, it really came to life for me when I started documenting all of our family travel journey’s into scrapbooking. I then transferred that creativeness from scrapbooking to travel blogging. I still document our yearly travels into a physical scrapbook, but instead of paper & diecuts, I use a digital scrapbook company that I love. Travel blogging for me is not just an account for our children to see in the future of everything we’ve done, traveled to, and experienced, but it’s an outlet for me to be artistic with my writing, photography skills, and technology in creating all those facets to come together cohesively & organically. I absolutely love travel blogging and I love it even more when someone else gets inspired to travel based on our journeys!
Cynthia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a bilingual (Spanish/English) woman born and raised in the U.S. I taught Spanish for 13 years. I am the brain behind Mackintosh Travels. I love to see new places and taste new foods. I love the mountains, ocean, city, and everything in between, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be beach-side living. I started Mackintosh Travels to document our family travels and to inspire others to do the same.
For those that know me well, they know I love all things that have to do with Hawaii & Disney! I love the sun with cool breezes, but I also love thunderstorms, especially at night! I have an awesome husband of 27+ years and two great adult sons. If I had to say one unique thing about me it would be that I was literally held as a baby by a famous western actor that has since passed on and you know him by John Wayne. This was in California where I was born. I also love to sing and made my city’s top 10 version of “American Idol” back in 2009. I am grateful for the many blessings in my life given by my savior Jesus Christ and I am not ashamed to say it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative individual is to see everything come together beautifully on my website. I also love when people comment on how the information on my website gave them helpful tips and made them want to visit a certain destination or inspired them to travel more.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
As a travel blogger I often get questions like “can you help me book so & so…?” I get misunderstood between what a travel blogger does vs a travel agent. I remind people that a travel agent actually books travel. A travel blogger essentially gives advice.
