We recently connected with Cynthia James and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cynthia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I was going through a terrible divorce and feeling stuck, confused and exhausted. My career was struggling and I was concerned about how to take care of me and my children. On one of my darkest days, I spoke (really yelled) at God. “Why is this happening to me?” Then, a quiet voice in me said. “Get up! Reinvent Yourself! That is what you have always done!” In that moment, the song “Everything must change came into my mind.”
Everything must change
Nothing stays the same
Everyone will change
Nothing and no one goes unchanged
I got out of my bed, took a shower and began to meditate on my new beginnings
Cynthia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Champion for Change and that title is not accidental. I have spent over two decades in self-examination, higher education and working with people around the world that are seekers. These individuals are always searching for knowledge, wisdom and techniques to bring their gifts to the world. As a transformation coach, my work invites people to take deep dives into three areas: Inquiry, Introspection, and Integration. I believe that my job is to support individuals to find their authentic voices, heal habits and patterns that no longer support them, claim their freedom and create the life of their dreams. I am committed to utilizing creative expression as a vital and effective healing modality that will assist everyone in their own personal and professional growth.
My life was transformed as I transcended a childhood of violence and abuse, and that experience created the foundation for all my programs. I have gone through two masters degree programs, and enrolled in a year long leadership coaching program to really learn how to run and business.
Powerful and brilliant people today are feeling blocked, stuck and anxious about their futures. They are struggling to manifest resources and bring their dreams and ideas to life. My transformational coaching, talks, workshops and pilgrimages are designed to make the life journey a little easier. The emotional integrative techniques I created guide people to change their thinking, recognize their value, trust and access their wisdom and make a huge impact in the world.
My products include online classes, music and meditation CD’s, one on one coaching, leadership and organizational facilitation.
I am very proud that I have supported thousands of people worldwide and trained coaches to do my work in the world.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media was daunting for me. I knew I could reach larger audiences by consciously using different platforms. So, I began to inquire. My first lesson, was not to hire someone because they love you and your message. I had two different support people that were engaged in my messaging but didn’t know how to deliver it. They didn’t charge a lot and that was because they didn’t know a lot.
I paused and wrote down what I needed and what my intention was for using social media. That made it easier to interview candidates and be clear about my goals. I finally found someone with great experience. We sat down and went over my goals, my messages, identified my audience and how to engage with them. She cost more than I wanted to spend but it turned out to be a great decision. My numbers jumped by 30% and people were guided onto my mailing list.
My advice is to get clear on why, who, and how you want to proceed before you jump in and spend a lot of money. You want people that are invested in your message and gifts
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had been working with a partner for several years. We loved each other and worked well together. I began to notice that my partner was feeling stressed. So, I asked what was going on. She was unclear but felt like something was calling her. The next year we talked often about this feeling and my concern about our business.
Finally, it became clear that our partnership was ending. We both needed to follow our passions in another form. So, we consciously ended the partnership and still support each other to this day.
Once we made the decision, I sat down with my team and discussed how we should move forward with intention, clarity and focus. That change opened a number of portals to support my business that would not have been there if were remained partners.
