We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cynnie Jane. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cynnie below.
Hi Cynnie, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Ever since I was little, I’ve wanted to pursue an artistic career. Music always fascinated me—it felt like magic, this thing that could instantly shift my mood or transport me to another world. But as I grew older, it became so much more than that. I began to realize just how therapeutic music could be, not only as a listener but also as a creator.
The first time I truly knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally was during a particularly challenging time in my life. I was going through hardships that felt overwhelming, and I found myself turning to music constantly—whether it was playing piano, writing lyrics, or simply listening to songs that felt like they “understood” me. It was a lifeline. Those moments gave me clarity about how powerful music can be. It helped me process my emotions, heal, and find hope again.
Equally important, I started to notice how much joy music brought to my life during the good times as well. It amplified my happiness and made me feel connected to the world in a deeper way. That realization—that music is something I could rely on no matter what I was going through—sparked a deeper purpose.
I decided I wanted to create music that other people could rely on in the same way. I wanted to write songs that could comfort, inspire, or lift someone out of a dark moment, just like music has done for me so many times. The idea of helping others feel better through something I create felt so meaningful, and it gave me a sense of direction and fulfillment I hadn’t felt before.
That’s when I knew this wasn’t just a dream; it was a calling. And it’s something that continues to drive me every day.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Cynnie Jane, a pop-rock artist and singer-songwriter with a passion for creating music that is deeply personal yet universally relatable. My journey into music began with my love for storytelling and expression, which I’ve been drawn to ever since I was a child. Over time, this passion grew into something much greater—something therapeutic. Music became a way for me to transmute pain into power, turning my real-life experiences, both the struggles and the triumphs, into songs that others can lean on and feel empowered by.
My journey began when I earned my degree in Music Industry from USC’s Thornton School of Music. Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to perform at notable venues in Los Angeles and beyond, and I’ve had the honor of writing not only for myself but also for other artists and TV/film projects. As the former lead singer of the rock band Cynister, I’ve built a strong foundation in music, but stepping into my solo career has allowed me to explore and refine my voice as an artist. I write all my own music and my lyrics reflect my real life experiences; they’re often inspired by themes of resilience, vulnerability, and growth. I’ve written hundreds of songs with various producers, writers, and artists over the past few years, and I take pride in crafting music that comes from an authentic place.
What sets me apart is my dedication to making music that serves as both a mirror and a guide. I want listeners to feel seen and understood, no matter where they are in life. Whether someone is going through a hardship or celebrating a high point, I aim to create songs that feel like a safe space—a reminder that they are not alone. For me, music is about transformation: taking life’s pain and challenges and turning them into something beautiful, uplifting, and even life-changing.
I’m most proud of how my music has connected with others on such a deep emotional level. Hearing from someone who says a song of mine helped them through a tough time, or made them feel hopeful, is the greatest reward. It’s a testament to the power of music and why I feel so committed to this craft.
For those just getting to know me and my work, I want you to know that my art is rooted in authenticity and a desire to make a positive impact. My goal is to create music that resonates, heals, and empowers, and I’m endlessly grateful to share this journey with my fans and collaborators.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when my music genuinely impacts someone’s life. Knowing that a song I wrote has helped someone through a hard time, made them feel less alone, or even boosted their confidence means everything to me. It’s such a powerful reminder of why I do this in the first place.
Music has always been my way of processing emotions and finding strength, and to see it resonate with others in the same way is incredibly fulfilling. When someone tells me that a song of mine made their day better or gave them hope, I feel like I’m doing my job. It’s those moments that keep me inspired to create and pour my heart into every song..
Have you ever had to pivot?
The music industry is always throwing curveballs—it’s constantly dynamic and ever-changing. As an artist, you have to be ready to pivot at any moment. One thing I’ve learned is to expect the unexpected and prepare for the likelihood that you’ll need to stray from your original plan, often multiple times along the way.
The key is being open to changes and not being too stubborn or married to an initial vision, because things will always evolve. And, more often than not, those shifts end up being for the best. Whether it’s adapting to new trends, unexpected challenges, or opportunities you didn’t see coming, staying flexible and open-minded is essential. It’s taught me to see change not as a setback, but as a chance to grow and create something even better than I originally planned.
