We were lucky to catch up with Cyndi Lundeberg recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cyndi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I currently run my own social media and have been super hesitant to relinquish control to anyone else. I feel like I have a connection with my audience because I am authentic and it’s me so replicating that seems hard. Social media is daunting, you can never post enough is how I feel. Also it’s constantly changing so keeping up to date with changes and updates is a full process in and of itself. All that being said, I love interacting with the people on my page as me. I feel like I know some of them and I know that they feel like they know me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi my name is Cyndi!!, online I go by NewsBoozenShoes. The idea for my social media, amazon influencing began super organically. I was a reporter and FUN FACT reporters don’t make any money. My first job was in Jackson, Tennessee and my salary was $20,000 before taxes. I had no money for food let alone clothes and I had to look professional on air. I began shopping Amazon and finding INCREDIBLE dresses and outfits that didn’t break the bank. I began writing reviews which included pictures, telling people “This dress is amazing quality!” or things like “These pants are awesome but size up!”- my reviews began to get a following and people began to vote them as helpful which you can do on Amazon. This helped me get ranked in the top 50 for all Amazon reviewers. I began to realize other people not just on Amazon might benefit from my Amazon finds. It was also at the same time Amazon reached out to me about being an Amazon influencer. I now get paid when people purchase and keep things I recommend.
This partnership with Amazon has now extended to them using my photos and videos for ads, Amazon Live and so much more!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I think authenticity is key. When people feel like they know you, that’s when they’ll want to follow and engage with you. I also always try to post things I would want to interact with, that helps me figure ou ideas!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, I know how horrible it felt to need to look and feel great but not have the finances to do it. So I love when I can help people find items that they’ll love that won’t break the bank. With COVID and people losing their jobs and looking for new ones, the last thing you want is to be worried about your outfit when you need to be worried about nailing the interview. I believe when you feel good you do good- of course that starts from within but if you can cut out worrying about what’s on your body or how much you spent on your outfit you can focus on all the other goodness. I also believe dressing well sets you a part- it’s the first thing people notice about you. Give them a reason to be impressed from the moment they see you!
