We were lucky to catch up with Cydney Tyrpak recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cydney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
I started working when I was 15, jobs seemed disposable to me at the time. I’d start a job and if it wasn’t for me, I’d put in my two week notice. You could say I got some experience during my teenage years. However, I applied to a little boutique for some extra money, not expecting to stay very long. But, right from the interview I knew I should give it a chance. It seemed like a fun and supportive environment. Every college girls dream!
I didn’t know this job was going to change my life for the better. That was all thanks to my boss, Hanna. From the jump, she noticed my hard work. She appreciated the effort I put forth, and thanked me. This may not seem like a lot, but for me it was everything. Most of my life, I never felt appreciated and that any of my work mattered. But, Hanna showed me it did. She showed me that even my smallest doings were important. She would go on and tell our higher-ups how she was so happy I was apart of this team. She wanted to promote me, but unfortunately our store closed due to COVID.
I’ll forever be grateful to my old boss. She taught me a lot and made me very comfortable with myself. She showed me I was important, that I was smart, that I mattered and my work mattered. She taught me to believe in myself and that I can go as far as I want to in this world. I’m not even sure she knows how thankful I am to have had her in my life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Cydney, and I am a Licensed Esthetician in Ohio. From a young age, I had lots of skin issues and I absolutely loved taking care of them. I always wanted to fix the problem at hand, and make my skin healthier. When I was 17 and graduated high school, I thought college was the way to go. I spent 5 years studying different majors – just to conclude nothing seemed right for me. That’s when I decided I should find a school for something I really love, and that’s when I enrolled into Brown Aveda Esthetics program.
Currently, I work at an organic salon and spa called Agape. The word “agape” is Greek for a deep love. And that’s exactly what this salon and spa is made of. We love our work, our products, our clients, and each other.
Zoning into my area of expertise – I am the only esthetician at Agape. Which is a blessing because I can truly connect and work with the clients that come into my room. I get the chance to establish a genuine connection with them. Whether it’s facials, waxes, brows, or eyelashes – my clients can count on consistent results every time!
I truly love my profession because I help people everyday. I help others feel confident and love the skin they’re in. I put forth lots of effort to ensure my clients are getting what’s best for them. I study everyday so I have the knowledge to answer their questions. I like people to know the “why,” it brings everything together. I do all of this so my clients have trust in me and my work. I wouldn’t be anywhere without them, so I always want to provide the greatest services.
Honesty is the trait I’m most proud to offer. If I don’t have an answer, I will not make one up. If my services won’t benefit you, I won’t continue the appointment just because. Honesty is what leads to trust, and trust is the backbone to any relationship.
I am ecstatic to be in a career I truly love. I never believed “When you get a job you love, you never work a day in your life,” until now. Everyday here at Agape is so fun and meaningful. Being obsessed with my career is an understatement. I’m excited to welcome new clients into my chair. To help them and to educate them!

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I believe there are lots of helpful tools for succeeding. However, the most important is your mind. The best way to succeed is to be gentle with yourself. You will have setbacks, upset clients, or maybe you make the wrong business call. The only thing that matters is you understand that it’s okay to mess up, you cannot learn without mistakes. Overcoming the voice in your head and allowing yourself time and grace will bring the best success.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would’ve chose this profession years ago. This is where I belong and I only wish I could’ve started sooner.
