We recently connected with Cydney Boudreaux and have shared our conversation below.
Cydney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Recently I had a friend ( Jakari Lister ) reach out to me to be apart of a his movie. After reading the script and feeding ideas back and forth we agreed on the role of art director. Throughout the whole process I was just so amazed at the talent that he brought together and how I was able to help execute his vision and bring it to life. This project was so meaningful to me not only because one of my peers had seen my work but enjoyed my work so much that he felt it was a necessary part to his bigger plan. As an artist of any kind, the person that gives you the most praise is yourself but that quickly becomes the person that is the hardest on you. You have to be confident in the work you share by yourself, so it feels great when others really acknowledge that and want you to help them with their art.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
There are three things i would tell to anyone that aspires to be a photographer create, network and share. Create whatever ideas you have write it down, map it out and create it. Don’t be afraid to fail because the great thing about art is that you can do the same thing over and over again until you come out with a product that you are proud of . Second, Network and put yourself in spaces with like minded people, this doesn’t all the time mean other photographers. Meet painters, models, designers, videographers and reach out to them. I can’t tell you how many times throughout my growth my friends have given me the opportunity to tag along with them for a shoot and to observe how they shoot. Third is share work you are proud of. Get comfortable with putting yourself out there not for the applause of others but for yourself. Posting your work on social media doesn’t always have to be the case. Share your work with friends until your comfortable and confident to share it with the world.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my job is always when a client looks at a picture i’ve taken and realizes how beautiful they are. I’ve done a few maternity shoots or couples pictures and the responses are usually ” you captured out love so well” or ” wow i look beautiful im really glowing”. I would encourage anyone with the budget to get your pictures professionally taken, because sometimes it shifts how we see ourselves.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
When i talk to my friends that are photogher we always say we wish people did more research on the type of style that certain photographers do and the type of look they are going for. How i shoot and edit may be completely different to someone else and you can’t come to me wanting me to shoot a different way all the time if i have developed a style. There are some styles that we venture out to but it’s interesting when people come to you wanting you to recreate someone’s work , when they could just go that photographer.
