We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful CUTRINA FREEMAN. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with CUTRINA below.
CUTRINA, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
“A child growing up likeable but carried a feeling of “rejection” from peers, family and associates would want you to help others who feel they can’t stand a chance” That was me the one who always wanted to participate in school activities, talent shows, etc. Only to face the fear of not winning or just being rejected.
So, my purpose as I learned more about “How to overcome rejection” in a spiritual aspect of life. Find out what God had for me to help someone else overcome. I always believed in serving and assisting others in any capacity because that’s what “being rejected” would do. It would opened up a place for someone to help those who do feel like they don’t have the morale support to show or operate in their God giving gift. I was that one who felt at peace making someone not feel what I felt. If that make sense…..

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My youngest son turned 5 years old and I couldn’t wait to get him in school FT so that I could go back to school without having to pay for child care. I enrolled in Notre Dame of MD University at the age of 38. It was then I was able to working towards my passion. I majored in Communications/Marketing/Broadcast and before you knew it, I was the Radio Announcer and Advocate for NDMU, inducted into “Woman in Communication” and involved in the “LBGTQ” organization on campus. My dedication took me places that involved community outreach, interning at Radio One, and then being able to co-host alongside some of the most talented Radio talents in Baltimore. Being a Youth Advocate for over 20 years working with the Baltimore Mentorship Program, after School Programs, and some of JHU funded programs in Baltimore Surrounding areas. I became very interested in helping youth find their passion and purpose in Media, Entertainment, and Entrepreneurship.
This opportunity provided me invitations for speaking engagements, MCing, and Radio Interviews to push youth to “find their nitch” and move forward in their gifts. I held my own show called “The Pinks Show” for WCND Radio in the Howard University area in DC. This opportunity allowed me to expand my horizon and become one of the known broadcasters online and throughout the DMV area. I was able to broadcast for some of the most known Business owners, Rallies, and artist who performed all over the world. My faith allowed me to open up my first Radio Broadcast Consulting Studio in Woodlawn MD. This studio was built to continue to assist small businesses, up and starting entrepreneurship, and to allow established business owners a platform to broadcast. My focus is to continue to promote, market, and be a living witness to those who suffered rejection because something or someone did not advocate for them. “Just Do It” and “If you want something you never had, you got to do something you never done” are words I’ve lived by. Currently, I’m currently working on a project for the “Alpha Woman” that will launch in 2023. My outlets are hosting events, singing karaoke, and hosting radio events.
My struggles were being accepted as a woman with such magnitude and positive energy yet the expectations of man not seeing it or giving ME a fair chance. My life “to me” has always been a reverse. I look at it as gaining wisdom early and being able to help someone now. I was lost in an identity that caused me to feel displaced in my family and relationships. My faith in Christ has taken me far and has shown me who I am, who’s I am, and where God Is taking me in this walk. I’m not there but I’m further than where I was much further. My life is unapologetic and I owe no man but to love them as God loves me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Healthcare Administrator who worked with Johns Hopkins University and School of Public Health for 15 years. I worked alongside doctors, chairmen, professors, and nurses to make sure our day was effective in healthcare. My passion is to just see people healed from trauma, physical and mental states. Healthcare is a very challenging but yet rewarding career. There are so many things you can learn. certificates you can get and opportunity to just assist. I’m proud that my contagious positive attitude no matter where I go is one to remember. I met so many people throughout my work career who say” why are you here?” You should be speaking at big conferences or on television. However, you are here helping patients. My patients kept me there because they needed my spirit. I knew my purpose and I loved my 9-5. The things that set me apart is my attitude on life and how I perceive those that I come in contact with. I was and still is told that I am “off the chain” I help those who feel that way so they can see “I’m just cut from a different kind of cloth”
I’ve started a book that I’m looking to finish soon called “Two Years From 50”. Working on a project to Podcast that will discuss toxic relationships, balancing out the old with the new, and the spiritual aspects within same-sex marriage and relationships that involve combine families.
My focus in the next 5 years would be working towards my undergraduate degree, career pathing within my new organization and graduating in 2023 with a degree in Communications. I will be more involved with serving and assisting in the Media and Promotion area for the LBGTQ Community helping my “family” to push further in their gifts via entertainment, music, and arts.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
So being in this business, community engaging is needed in order to engage and build relationships. I like people. I am a people’s person who love good vibes, conversation and fellowship. I always felt i needed to push others or motivate others to get satisfaction of just being a good person. The hard part was expecting it back in return or thinking the moral support I needed should of been giving. How do people perceive you as an amazing person but can’t reciprocate the same? I had to go in a place where no one could assist me, my loss of business, my health issues or my finances. It was learned behavior I felt I needed to survive. I only realized that you cant push people that don’t want to be pushed even if you see the greatness in them. I experienced a place where I totally had to focus on myself “a lot”. I needed to experience a place where I wasn’t only loosing things but gaining what was more important to deliver a message with no expectations.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
