We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Customland La Halsey & Geeg a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Customland LA, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our mission is rooted in a passion for timeless style and a commitment to sustainability. We draw inspiration from nostalgia while also embracing the creativity that comes from using unexpected materials. We love to take what’s available—whether it’s leftover fabrics, vintage finds, or even items from clothing swaps—and transform them into unique pieces that tell their own stories.
Inclusivity is at the heart of what we do; we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to express themselves through fashion, which is why we focus on larger sizes that are often overlooked. In a world where trends can dominate, we aim to encourage individuals to embrace their personal style and take fashion risks that reflect their unique experiences.
We are motivated by a desire to challenge the wastefulness of fast fashion and the harmful practices of many mainstream brands. By promoting creative reuse and upcycling, we hope to inspire a shift towards a more thoughtful approach to clothing—one that values creativity over consumption.
Ultimately, our mission is meaningful to us because it aligns with our values of individuality and sustainability. We aspire to create a space where diverse expressions of style are celebrated, encouraging everyone to find joy and authenticity in their fashion choices.

Customland LA, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
At Customland, we’re an airbrush and embroidery studio and independent label consignment shop nestled in the heart of Hollywood, California. Founded by two best friends, Halsey and Geeg, our space is a celebration of creativity and individuality, where we specialize in crafting unique, one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories.
Our services allow customers to customize their garments through personalized airbrush designs and intricate embroidery. Whether you want to add a special touch to an item you already own or explore our curated collection of vintage and blank garments, we provide endless options for self-expression. Alongside our custom work, we showcase a selection of clothing and accessories from independent label makers, ensuring that every piece is unique and supports local artisans.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to building a vibrant community around creativity. We regularly host events like clothing swaps and workshops, inviting everyone to share their style, learn new techniques, and connect with fellow creators. This inclusive environment fosters collaboration and innovation, making Customland a unique shopping experience.
We are incredibly proud of the safe space we’ve created for artists and makers. Our journey began in 2021 when we combined our artistic skills, and since then, we’ve cultivated a welcoming atmosphere that encourages people to embrace their creativity. We believe in the power of community and the importance of supporting one another, which has been instrumental in our growth.
For anyone interested in joining our adventure, we want you to know that Customland is about more than just shopping; it’s about discovering and nurturing your personal style while connecting with others. We dream of expanding our vision, potentially opening more Customland locations run by local artists, and continuing to host events that inspire and entertain. We’re excited to see where this journey takes us and hope you’ll be a part of it!

How’d you meet your business partner?
Our story began in the midst of 2020, during a time when creativity was our escape. Halsey and Geeg connected through Instagram after a mutual friend posted about Halsey’s work with her brand, Gimme Greens. I (Geeg) commented on one of her posts, suggesting we collaborate, and she sent me some shirts she had drawn on for me to embroider. That was our first taste of working together, and it sparked a fun back-and-forth that quickly blossomed into a friendship.
When we finally met in person that summer, it felt like we’d known each other forever. We bonded over our shared love for the reality show Survivor and our passion for art. Realizing we both wanted to create a space for artists to showcase their work, we started looking for a studio together.
Serendipitously, we found a place that had a storefront, and that’s how Customland was born! It was an organic progression from friends collaborating to business partners on a mission to foster creativity in our community. We’ve been having a blast ever since, and we can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building our audience on social media has been a really rewarding journey! We started by following a ton of artists and creators we admired, engaging with their work by commenting and sharing. It’s all about fostering connections—when you lift others up, it creates a positive environment where everyone thrives.
We’ve met so many amazing artists who stock their creations at our shop through social media. It really makes the world feel smaller and more connected. Instead of falling into the trap of comparison or jealousy, we focus on celebrating each other’s successes. When you support your community and highlight the talents around you, it just makes everything better for everyone involved.
For anyone just starting to build their social media presence, our advice is to genuinely engage with others. Don’t be afraid to share your journey, collaborate, and cheer on fellow creators. This mindset of connectivity over competition can really help you grow and create a supportive community!
