We were lucky to catch up with Curtrina Smalls recently and have shared our conversation below.
Curtrina , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
When I was younger, my parents didn’t always have a lot, but they always made sure we looked taken care of. Clean, neat, presentable — even if we were just running errands. That taught me early on that presentation, self-respect, and showing up for yourself matters — and that’s something I pour into every client. When you leave my spa, I want you to feel put together, seen, and valued.
So yeah, what they did right?
They taught me how to move with purpose, treat people with love, and never forget the power of small things done well.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey love, I’m Curtrina — the hands and heart behind Gifted Myndset Spa LLC, based in Broward County, Florida. I’m a licensed esthetician who specializes in facials and waxing, but more than that, I’m in the business of healing skin, building confidence, and creating peace through intentional self-care.
I got into this industry because I’ve always had a passion for helping others feel better — not just on the outside, but from the inside out. Skincare is more than a luxury to me — it’s a form of therapy. After going through my own journey of self-love, growth, and transformation, I knew I wanted to create a space that helped other women experience that same breakthrough.
At Gifted Myndset Spa, I offer:
• Customized Facials for all skin types
• Brazilian & Full Body Waxing
What makes me different?
It’s the energy. The intention. The hands. The mindset.
Every service is given with love, precision, and purpose. I don’t just treat skin — I treat people. I create a safe space where you can unwind, recharge, and leave glowing both physically and emotionally.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Consistency, connection, and quality — in that order.
I show up regularly on social media, not just to promote, but to educate, inspire, and connect with my audience. People don’t just book with me because I offer facials and waxing — they book because they trust me, they vibe with my energy, and they see that I care about their experience.
I also focus heavily on referrals and retention. Most of my new clients come from existing ones who loved their service and shared it with friends or family. So I go the extra mile during every appointment — from the vibe in the room to the aftercare I provide — because word-of-mouth is powerful.
And lastly, I never stop learning and evolving. Whether it’s upgrading my technique, improving my setup, or refining how I speak to my audience, I’m always working to stay ahead and serve better.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn:
That I had to “do it all” alone to prove I was strong.
For a long time, I carried this mindset that asking for help or needing support meant I wasn’t built for entrepreneurship — that it made me look weak or unprepared. I used to wear burnout like a badge of honor. I thought if I wasn’t exhausted, I wasn’t working hard enough.
The backstory?
When I first started Gifted Myndset Spa, I was doing everything — services, booking, marketing, cleaning, customer service — all by myself. I thought I had to hustle 24/7 to be taken seriously. But I slowly realized I was pouring from an empty cup. I was present, but not at peace. I was working, but not growing the way I could have been.
The breakthrough:
I had to unlearn that “strong” means doing it all.
Now, strong means:
• Knowing when to rest
• Asking for help
• Creating systems that support your purpose
• Trusting that ease and excellence can go together
That shift helped me grow not just my business — but my mindset. Hence the name: Gifted Myndset.
