We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Curtesha Howell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Curtesha , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea for a women’s ministry/organization came about when I was 15 years old. I remember journaling about ministering to women and providing helpful resources. Fast forward to 2016, I went to a church conference in Atlanta, GA with a friend at the time. After the conference, we headed back to our hotel room where we sat down and came up with the idea of creating a nonprofit organization. This organization would not only support women, but also assist in giving back to our community. I knew this idea would be worthwhile because I knew the things I faced in life were not in vain and that my testimony would help others. I was most excited about planning outings for the ladies. I knew I didn’t want to bore the ladies with just information. I really wanted to connect with them by being as hands on as possible. We have not met up since before the covid pandemic, but I’m hoping to be able to very soon!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Curtesha Howell, but I go by Tesha. I am a mother of two and have always had a passion for helping others. In June of 2021 I published my first self-love and healing journal that I use during one-on-one mentoring sessions. I am most proud of how much DOKsistersunited has grown since starting out. For those looking for a sisterhood that provides uplifting messages, motivation, mental health tips, relationship advice, free business promotion and more, I would love for you to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Check out our weekly calendar to stay up to date and connected.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2017, I began to silently battle depression, but it caught up to me in 2019. I didn’t have the mental capacity to pour into anyone. I decided to take a sabbatical. During this time, life took its turns, but after much prayer, spiritual counseling, and family support I found the strength to publish a book on self-love and healing titled “showing me a little love.” I re-activated our organization status and found the strength to get back to connecting with others.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ll be honest . Im still working on building my social media audience, but I have noticed ways to draw more traffic to my pages. Such as : hashtags, reshares and promoting others will also help you get exposure.
