We were lucky to catch up with Curteesha Bell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Curteesha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
The early days of building my own brand/business began with a decision to finally give myself permission to walk in my purpose. At the time, that meant stepping away from the security of a full-time position and transitioning into part-time work so I could create the space to explore my passion for fitness and life coaching. I knew that if I didn’t make room for it, I would never truly know what operating in my purpose could feel like, or what I was capable of building.
One of the biggest challenges in establishing my own business was overcoming the fear of failure. I had always worked within the structure of a traditional job so stepping into entrepreneurship, where I was solely responsible for marketing, attracting clients and sustaining my business, was intimidating. The uncertainty was real. But once I faced that fear head-on and allowed my passion and drive to take the lead, everything began to shift. That same fear was replaced with a fire that fueled my growth and from that point forward, my journey has been one of continuous progress.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change anything. Every step, every challenge and every moment of uncertainty played a role in shaping not only my business but also my faith and resilience. I truly believe those experiences were ordered and intentional, guiding me exactly where I needed to be.
For any young professional considering starting their own business, my advice is simple: start. Start where you are, with what you have. You don’t need everything figured out in the beginning. What matters most is taking that first step. Trust that as you move forward in obedience, the tools, clarity and direction you need will come. Once you make that first faith filled step, all of your steps after will be ordered and ordained by God.

Curteesha , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a certified fitness and life coach and my journey into this industry started from a genuine love for working out. What began as a personal hobby in the gym slowly grew into something more as women around me began asking for help, advice and eventually requesting that I train them. In the beginning, I often said no because I didn’t yet feel confident taking on the responsibility of guiding someone else’s health and fitness. At that time, it was still just something I loved doing for myself.
As my passion deepened, I decided to become certified and that’s when everything shifted. With the knowledge and confidence I gained, I stepped fully into my role and began training women with purpose and intention.
Today, I offer both in-person and virtual personal training, along with virtual life coaching. My training style focuses on strength training, which I believe is one of the most effective ways to transform your body, whether your goal is building muscle, fat loss, or body recomposition. Alongside that, my life coaching services are designed to help women create balance in their everyday lives. I work with clients to organize their routines, manage their time and build habits that support both their personal and professional responsibilities while still making space for themselves.
What truly sets me apart is my ability to bridge the gap between fitness and life. As both a certified fitness coach and life coach, I understand that transformation doesn’t start and stop in the gym. Many of the challenges women face in their fitness journeys are rooted in their daily lives, routines and responsibilities. I help my clients align both so they can show up fully not just in their workouts but in every area of their lives.
What I’m most proud of is the studio my partner, Eric White and I have built together. Day 1 Fitness Studio is a true reflection of everything we believe in, fitness, faith, discipline and community. The atmosphere we’ve curated is intentional and welcoming, especially for those who are just starting or starting over. It’s more than a gym, it’s a space where people can grow physically, mentally and spiritually.
Above all, I want potential clients and supporters to know that my brand is about transformation from the inside out. It’s not just about how you look, it’s about who you become. My goal is to help every woman I work with step into the version of herself she desires and deserves to be, while guiding her through every step needed to get there.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had more than one defining pivot in my journey but the first one started with a feeling I couldn’t ignore. On paper, I had everything you’re supposed to want, a full-time job, benefits, stability. But every day I sat at my desk, I felt it… this quiet but persistent pull telling me I was meant for more. What I had was secure but it didn’t feel secure in my spirit. The desire to leave, to do something meaningful, became louder than the comfort of staying.
That feeling grew into a burning urgency. I started to feel like I was wasting time, like each day I stayed in that space I was delaying who I was truly called to be. Eventually, I couldn’t ignore it anymore. That was my first pivot, choosing to walk away from full-time security and step into part-time work so I could finally give my passion a real chance.
It was uncomfortable. It required faith over fear in every sense. But that decision created the space I needed to pursue fitness not just as something I loved but as something I was called to do. That’s where everything truly began.
The second major pivot came a couple of years later. By then, I had been working as a full-time personal trainer and had built confidence in my craft. But once again, I felt that same pull, that same deep knowing that there was another level I needed to step into. This time, it wasn’t just about being a trainer. It was about building something of my own.
That’s when my partner, Eric White and I made the decision to start Day 1 Fitness Studio.
Stepping into business ownership was a completely different level of faith. It required more responsibility, more vision and an even deeper level of faith. But just like before, the desire outweighed the fear. We carried that faith with us and built something rooted in everything we believe in, fitness, growth, discipline and purpose.
Both pivots taught me the same lesson: when something is placed on your heart that strongly, you can’t ignore it. Comfort will try to keep you still but purpose will call you forward. And every time I chose to move, even when I was unsure, it led me exactly where I was meant to be

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Without a doubt, I would choose the same profession again.
This path has challenged me, stretched me and required me to grow in ways I never expected but it has also given my life a level of purpose and fulfillment that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Being able to help women transform not just physically but mentally and emotionally is something that continues to remind me that I’m walking in exactly what I was called to do.
There have been moments of uncertainty and moments where I’ve had to push past fear and doubt but every experience has shaped me into a stronger coach, a stronger business owner and a stronger woman overall. It’s also deepened my faith and strengthened my trust in God in a way that I know wouldn’t have happened if I chose a different path.
What I do doesn’t just impact my clients, it impacts me. It holds me accountable to live what I teach and to continuously grow. That alignment between who I am and what I do is something I value deeply.
So if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t hesitate. I would still choose this path, every single time.
