We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Curt Legacy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Curt, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
Not so much an issue, but I think a big unexpected delimma for me was making sure I had an identity as an artist. When I first started music I didn’t understand how much my actual life would shape me in to being the artist I am today. I think sometimes some artist get caught up in what the perception is, instead of just allowing their life pour out through their music naturally. I had to grow as an individual first in order for that to happen for me. Navigating through self inflicted losses and setbacks, helped me to understand who I actually wanted to be in this world. We can be whoever we want to be in this world, but ultimately we can only be who we are.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Since I was a kid in elementary, I thrived in writing and creating. As I got older, writing short stories and then ultimately writing lyrics is something that kind of turned into my super power. I think that skill just got more enhanced once I started to experience different facets of life, then I was able to apply that to my skill set. I’d say the main thing that I am proud of is, that I never gave up because there were many times where nothing seemed to be working to get noticed or to move the needle in my music career. I am grateful that I have a team around me that supports the vision we collectively have for success. I believe in the art of music no matter how its delivered or what genre it comes from. As long as listeners can feel something and catch a good vibe from your message, then you’ve done your job as a creative/artist. Branch Side is the team that has enhanced my vision as a artist. Based out of Austin, Texas, we believe in helping up and coming artist get to a point where they can advance and take the next big step in their careers. Whether it’s making sure they have good work habits with recording and creating, or making sure their music is registered correctly, or hosting live shows to put them in front of new audiences, we want the artists that we work with to know that we understand how difficult this journey can be and that they are not alone.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me as an artist would have to be the fact this gives me the freedom to simply be creative. This gives me an outlet to think outside of the normal day to day grind of the world. The luxury of being able to express yourself in a creative and artistic way, and then having people across the world listen and relate and enjoy what they’re hearing has always been the fulfilling part for me.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The main goal for me in this whole journey is to prove to myself that I can be successful at something that I wanted to do in this life. Success looks different for everyone, but as I always tell my team, no matter what you’re doing, you have to see it big, you have to know that everything is going to work out in your favor.
