Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Curlese Benson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Curlese , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was one of the most important lessons you learned in school? Why did that lesson stick with you?
One of the most impactful lessons I learned in school came during my time in high school. I was part of a group project that required us to collaborate, delegate tasks, and present our findings to the class. Initially, I tried to do most of the work myself because I felt responsible for the outcome. As a result, I became overwhelmed and the group dynamic suffered.
Life has been filled with many lessons that have attributed to my growth as a person and professional. The one lesson that is at the forefront of my memory is from high school. One day, my English teacher pulled me aside and said, “Leadership isn’t about doing everything yourself; it’s about empowering others to bring their strengths to the table.” That conversation changed everything. I realized that trust, communication, and teamwork were just as important as individual effort.
From that moment on, I made a conscious effort to involve my peers more, and the project turned out to be a huge success. This lesson has stayed with me throughout my career—both as an educator and now as a real estate professional. It’s shaped how I lead my team, interact with clients, and build a sense of community. Delegating and empowering others not only lightens the load but also brings out the best in everyone involved.
Curlese , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a top-producing Realtor and veteran educator, my journey into real estate began with a passion for helping others achieve their goals. My career in education teaches me the importance of patience, clear communication, and building trust—skills that seamlessly translated into real estate. I founded Purposed Realty Group to serve individuals and families who are navigating one of the most significant financial decisions of their lives: buying or selling a home.
At Purposed Realty Group, we don’t just focus on transactions; we focus on building relationships. We take the time to understand our clients’ needs and goals, tailoring our services to deliver a personalized experience. Whether it’s a first-time homebuyer, someone looking to downsize, or an investor building their portfolio, our mission is to guide clients through the process with expertise, integrity, and care.
What sets us apart is our holistic approach. We educate our clients on market trends, negotiate fiercely on their behalf, and provide a network of trusted professionals—from lenders to contractors—to ensure a smooth experience from start to finish.
I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me and the lasting relationships I’ve built over the years. What I want people to know about Purposed Realty Group is that we are not just about selling homes; we are about creating opportunities and empowering clients to make informed decisions that align with their dreams and financial future. Every client’s journey is unique, and we are honored to be a part of it.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of building strong relationships and leveraging the power of referrals as well as cultivating new relationships through social media. Real estate is a people-centered business, and trust is everything. I make it a priority to provide exceptional service to every client, ensuring that their experience is smooth, transparent, and tailored to their unique needs. When clients feel genuinely cared for, they naturally want to share their positive experience with friends and family.
In addition to referrals, I’ve also focused on creating a strong online presence. By consistently sharing valuable content—such as market updates, home-buying tips, and success stories—on social media and through email marketing, I stay top of mind with both past clients and potential new ones. This has allowed me to reach a wider audience and position myself as a trusted resource in the real estate industry.
Lastly, community involvement has been a game-changer. By participating in local events, supporting small businesses, and volunteering, I’ve been able to connect with people on a deeper level. These genuine connections often lead to new business opportunities, as people appreciate working with someone who’s invested in their community.
Ultimately, my growth strategy revolves around authenticity, providing value, and building lasting relationships—because real estate is so much more than just buying and selling homes; it’s about helping people achieve their dreams.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Absolutely. Several books and resources have profoundly shaped my management and entrepreneurial philosophy. One of the most impactful books for me has been The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber. It emphasizes the importance of building systems in your business rather than relying solely on personal effort. This concept has transformed how I approach real estate—focusing on creating repeatable, scalable processes that ensure a seamless experience for clients, no matter how busy I am.
Another favorite is Start With Why by Simon Sinek. This book reinforced the idea that success begins with a clear sense of purpose. It’s a concept I’ve embraced with Purposed Realty Group, where our “why” is to empower clients to build wealth and create a legacy through real estate. Communicating this mission has been key to building trust and inspiring loyalty.
I’ve also found value in online resources like TED Talks and podcasts. One that stands out is The Ed Mylett Show, which features interviews with top entrepreneurs and leaders. The lessons on mindset, discipline, and resilience have helped me stay focused and maintain a growth-oriented perspective, even when faced with challenges.
Finally, as a former educator, I draw heavily from John Maxwell’s leadership books, particularly The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. His teachings on servant leadership remind me that success comes from empowering others—whether that’s my clients, team members, or the community.
These resources, combined with real-world experience, have helped me build a client-centered, purpose-driven business rooted in integrity, continuous learning, and long-term impact.
