We were lucky to catch up with Cue ColdBlooded recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cue, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
I’d have to take it back to like 2009. The 1st year I’d consider myself really pursuing this music thing more seriously. I was in the process of producing & writing for our 1st ever D.E. (The Domino Effect) project. We had a set one night at this underground spot called “The Fox Hole”, couldn’t have been no more than our 4th, maybe 5th show ever. That night they were having a producer’s beat battle after all the performances so Steve & my friends that came with us got me to jump in it. Nothing to lose right? I just felt a little reluctant because this was my 1st beat battle & I only had the 3 instrumentals that we performed on our set prior. So, I’m thinking, no way that I’m winning with the only 3 beats I have that the crowd has already heard. Then I was fresh into producing at the time. I didn’t’ know what to expect. In the end, I ended up winning 3 rounds with those same 3 beats & taking home $75. My homies helped push me to the ‘W” with the crowd participation most def. It was maybe 20 people in there, but I’ll never forget it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Cue ColdBlooded. I’m a music producer, hip-hop artist, & audio engineer. I’ve been producing, composing, writing, performing, & mixing music since being on the STL music scene since 2009. I also have been a member of the alternative hip-hop group “The Domino Effect” since 2009 as well. I got into my craft not only being just a student/lover of music, but also because of my dad. As a kid he introduced me to instruments by letting me experiment at church as well as singing in the choir. He also bought me my 1st Casio keyboard & helped me with programming beats into them. Since then, I was always interested in producing. I became really invested into it from following/listening to my favorite producers like Pharrell & Kanye religiously & building my own home studio during college. I never went to school for anything music related so majority of what I know, is 14 years+ of learning things on my own & YouTube university. My diligence & discipline throughout the years is the main reason I’ve made it this far & I feel along with that plus my “sound”, is what separates me from the crowd. I’m proud of the 20+ albums/projects I’ve had a hand in crafting over that time span & how it impacted the scene, but feel even more excited about the future ideas, projects, & ventures I plan to get into! I have a mantra “make an impact while keeping your heart intact”. That’s how I go into this & keep it with me during the process. Creating something that will stand through time & is always true to me.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to leave that impact of being one of the greatest producers/creatives of my generation. Not in having all the accolades or a just for the money type of way, but for being a one of one & having the ability to inspire someone else to create and impact the world with that same feeling. I also want to create a score to a movie one day. I think that would be beyond dope & the skill level would be on Thanos by then.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
They don’t realize all the work you have to put in. Some may look at it as a hobby or something that’s not that difficult to grasp, but just because you can get the same tools doesn’t mean you can do what I do. There’s countless hours/money/time spent to put projects together from scratch crafting every element. Trust me, I’ve felt all the high & lows as an artist. If you really care, you keep going no matter the pace.
