We were lucky to catch up with Crystal Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Crystal, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I believe the timing is everything. When I started was the time it was supposed to happen for me. I think that it was my season to launch, and everything aligned with what I suppose to do and who I was supposed to have in my life to bring the vision to life. I wouldn’t go back and change the timing. In 2011 I launched. I actually decided to not go on a group vacation with friends and instead opened my business that weekend. It started the sacrifices that were needed in order to be an entrepreneur. Looking back, I was in a good place in life to totally devote all my time and attention to growing my vision. It took everything, every day to achieve the goals I had set.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Crystal and in 2011 I took a leap of faith and founded EyeCandy Waxing & Threading Brow Salon. I previously worked in the insurance industry and was a licensed insurance agent for over 11 years. I began my career in San Diego, California, and transferred with the company to Texas. After being in Texas for some years at the start of the threading trend. I noticed there was a growing market developing in the industry. With me being naturally a brow fanatic, I was intrigued. I knew I was on to something and wanted to be a part of a fast-growing hair removal technique. I want a unique salon that specializes in brows and lashes. I want brow lovers to have an intimate haven for their brow needs. I wanted to break a cultural barrier in the industry and be a trendsetter. I liked that we were different and added something to the industry that was new and fresh.
We are a company that values our clients and staff. We are a convenience-based salon with ease of doing business.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Life happens even while building a business. Life will have you have one thing doing great while another area in your life is shattering. My business was growing and going up while my personal life was changing. I buried my mother, father, and grandmother in one year. While still having to lead and navigate a team. At that point in life, I was the main visionary running and managing the company, so I still had to show up, and not lose momentum. My team still depended on me, and I had to be there for our customers. I had to continue what I started. I couldn’t allow my business to become affected so it took me seeing the bigger picture and the long-term effects the business would have if I didn’t stay steady in the storm. It was important for me to still lead by example.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I love seeing and being a part of the greeting and connecting with my customers. I love being in the salons and feeling the energy of our salons. A lot of customers have been faithful for years and I love running into them. A lot of times they know me on a first-name basis. I am always introducing myself and thanking them for their business. I absolutely enjoy what I do. When I get to meet and greet clients and put a name to their faces it’s a pleasure. I really think the best way I keep in touch is by being active in the operations. I still can be seen at the front desk on some days and doing everyday things that allow me to not lose touch with our clientele. Thy actually are corresponding with me on a day-to-day basis by text or email. I like getting a pulse on what we are doing well and what we need to improve on.
