We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Crystal Stucker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Crystal below.
Crystal , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
For over six years, I was an Educator at the Aveda Institute Houston. It was stable, familiar, and meaningful work—I was shaping future professionals, building relationships, and operating in a space where I felt confident. But over time, I started to feel a pull. I missed the energy of the salon—the pace, the creativity, the direct connection with guests. So I decided to take a small step back into the salon world, part-time.
That first experience back wasn’t what I had hoped for. It didn’t align with my values, and honestly, it made me question whether I had outgrown that side of the industry. It would have been easy to retreat back into what felt safe. But instead, I stayed open.
That’s when I connected with The Color Bar.
From the beginning, something felt different. The culture, the standards, the focus on growth—it challenged me in the best way. As I spent more time there, I started to see something shift in myself. My confidence grew. My skills sharpened. I wasn’t just getting back into the salon—I was evolving.
Then an opportunity came that truly tested me. I was offered a Salon Lead position. Not long after, I was presented with an even bigger opportunity: Director of Growth and Recruitment.
This was the moment where the real risk showed up.
Accepting those roles meant walking away from the security of the Aveda Institute—the place I had called home for years—and stepping fully into something new and uncertain. It meant betting on myself in a different way. There were a lot of unknowns, and I had to ask myself if I was ready to let go of what was comfortable to pursue what was possible.
Ultimately, I chose to take the risk.
A big part of that decision was Justin. He saw something in me—potential, drive, a hunger for growth—and he didn’t just point it out, he challenged me to step into it. Having someone believe in you at that level pushes you to believe in yourself differently.
Since making that leap, I’ve grown in ways I couldn’t have predicted. I’ve stepped into leadership, developed my voice, and become part of building something bigger than myself. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it.
Looking back, that risk wasn’t just about changing jobs. It was about choosing growth over comfort—and trusting that I was capable of more.

Crystal , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve built my career around developing people and elevating the salon experience from the inside out. I got into the industry because I’ve always been passionate about beauty—but even more than that, I’m passionate about growth. Over time, that passion evolved beyond just working behind the chair and into helping others succeed within the salon environment.
Today, I focus on cultivating strong salon leaders and high-performing teams. I work closely with stylists and salon teams to help them set clear goals, stay accountable, and achieve the results they’re striving for—whether that’s increasing productivity, building confidence, or creating a more elevated guest experience. I also recruit and train new talent, while continuing to develop the skills of current stylists so they can grow both creatively and professionally.
While leadership and development are a big part of what I do, I still spend one day a week behind the chair. That time is important to me—it keeps me connected to the craft and allows me to continue making my guests look and feel their absolute best.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just teach systems—I lead by example. I understand the day-to-day reality of salon life, and I bring a balance of real-world experience, structure, and genuine care for people. I’m most proud of the growth I’ve seen in the individuals and teams I’ve worked with—watching someone gain confidence, hit their goals, or step into leadership is incredibly rewarding.
I want potential clients and followers to know that my brand is rooted in intention, consistency, and growth. I’m here to help you elevate—not just your numbers, but your mindset, your skillset, and your overall impact.
If you want, I can tailor this more to sound bolder, more casual, or more luxury-brand focused depending on where it’s being published.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience, for me, has looked less like one defining moment and more like a pattern I’ve had to repeat—over and over again.
As a former military spouse, starting over wasn’t a one-time challenge. It was a cycle. Every move meant leaving behind guests, a team I had built relationships with, and a sense of familiarity that most people get to grow over years. I would walk into a new city and a new salon as the “new stylist” again—having to prove myself, rebuild trust, and start from zero.
There’s a certain vulnerability in that. You don’t just rebuild a clientele—you rebuild your confidence, your rhythm, your identity in a new space. Each time, I had to remind myself: you’ve done this before—you can do it again.
What grounded me through all of it was staying connected to Aveda. No matter where I landed, there was a sense of alignment in values, culture, and standards. It gave me a foundation when everything else felt new. It allowed me to plug in faster, build relationships with like-minded professionals, and create consistency for myself and my guests.
Over time, I realized that what once felt like disruption was actually shaping me. I became stronger in building relationships quickly, more intentional with every guest experience, and more adaptable than I ever would’ve been if I had stayed in one place.
Looking back, resilience wasn’t just about starting over—it was about learning how to thrive in the reset.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part is witnessing transformation—not just in the work, but in the person behind it.
Watching a stylist grow from their first days in school—unsure, learning the basics, building confidence—to becoming a skilled professional behind the chair is powerful. You see them find their voice, refine their craft, and step into their identity. It’s not just about better hair; it’s about growth in discipline, confidence, communication, and purpose.
It’s just as rewarding to see stylists who are already behind the chair elevate to the next level—hitting goals they once thought were out of reach, strengthening their business, and creating real impact in their lives and the lives of their guests.
There’s something special about knowing you played a role in that journey—guiding, mentoring, and helping them unlock their potential. Seeing that shift from “I hope I can do this” to “I know I can”—and watching that confidence translate into changed lives—is where the real reward lives.
