We recently connected with Crystal Speaks and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal , thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
it’s important to note that taking risks doesn’t mean being reckless or impulsive. It involves thoughtful consideration, weighing the potential rewards against the potential consequences, and being prepared to learn from both successes and failures. This was a lesson I learned over the past few years. As I step into the unknown with my content creation processs, I am learning to take risk. In fact, failure is often an integral part of the risk-taking process, providing valuable lessons and insights that can ultimately lead to future success.
Ultimately, taking risks is about embracing uncertainty and embracing the unknown. It’s about having the courage to pursue our aspirations and dreams, even when the outcome is uncertain. As I continue to create a space for Mothers to feel heard, I know that taking risks throught the process is essenssial By taking calculated risks, we not only expand our horizons but also discover the full extent of our capabilities and potential. For all my content creators, mother, artist, take the risk it could lead to a road of many opportunites !!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a 27 year old, mother, content creator, and PH.D student. While I do wear many hats each role as rooted from a past of passion. I believe myself to a lover of learning and trying new things. I learned that the beauty in life is released by opening yourself to newness and a ton of change. It took me some time to get where I am right now because is struggled with the confidence needed to go after the things my heart desired. I created a clothing store named Cotton and Confidence back in 2019, that stemmed from wanted to advocate for women and girls that struggled from find confidence inside themselves. The motto of this brand was, ” where confidence is worn inside and out.” I wanted to create a brand where women of any size, shape, or color could find clothing that promoted confidence. This passion to advocate encourage my role with Mental Health support. I now am enter my first year as a PH.D student and hope to continue to encourage women to showcase the confidence within.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Earlier in my career, I wish that I knew the importance of community and asking for help. As human we do not know it all and we should reach out for help when needed. It does not mean you are any less knowledgable.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a few times I had to pivot in my life and especially in a business life. One example of this was when I had to put my business, Cotton and COnfidnece on hold in order to pursue my education in Couseling. This was hard decision and I often felt like a failure, which wasnt true but an intrusive thought. I had to learn that It is okay to put something on hold but to return when it alighns with your life. As enter into a new stage of my life, I am finally able to circle back a bring this vision of women clothing, confidence, counseling and support.
