Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Crystal Robertson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Crystal, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Life for me has always been about doing new things and learning what works, sometimes the easy way and other times the hard way. Starting a for-profit and non-profit company completely redirected who I am. In 2016, I decided I needed to start my PR company as an umbrella to a nonprofit called Feed the Streetz Outreach, an organization through which I could give back to where I came from by ultimately impacting the youth suffering from homeless conditions.
Not realizing it at the time, I was still that young girl enduring the loss of a home and creating a reality that was something I had never seen growing up. Post-graduate student, living in Texas when my safety net resided in Louisiana with late deceased mother. I jumped into business without truly knowing my niche or my “why,” not quite understanding that passion alone cannot pay the bills, and constantly exposing myself to knowledge to challenge the leader I am. As a single mom, I learned in 2019 that executing my dreams despite the cost would separate me from those who make a decision versus those who execute the authority to decide…
If did not started my business, I don’t believe I would have accepted such privileges as being a mother, mentor, and/or a humbling student as I gradually targeted my ideal of success; and not society’s.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Dream inspired and driven by purpose and creating lasting memories, Founder and CEO, Crystal Robertson launched Madame C’s Touch Agency in 2016.
With a dream to marry precision, hustle, and sharpened talent, Crystal set out to change the
landscape of public relations with her own personal flair. A Louisiana native, Crystal came from
humble beginnings. Raised by a nomadic, single mother, she spent her life in Texas, living in a
hand to mouth household, often wearing hand-me-downs, and even experienced homelessness
with her mother, who ultimately passed away in 2011 when Crystal was just 18 years old.
Although the odds were against her, Crystal was determined to conquer new territory. During
undergrad, she worked a string of odd jobs, gaining experience in customer service, project
management, community relations, and interning under publicists who represented celebrities
and fashion powerhouses such as Ese Azenabor, launching MCT shortly after completing her
post secondary education.
On the heels of a successful launch, Crystal was inspired to take another leap of faith by
introducing the non-profit portion of the company to the public, Feed the Streetz Outreach, a
community outreach program designed to care for the homeless and youth.
In early November 2016, Feed the Streetz Outreach hosted their annual Blessing to the Streetz
by servicing 300 individuals, with hygiene blessing bags & food in the Dallas’ urban community
while garnering a major sponsor.
MCT Agency is currently working actively in the community. Building an all female team of
superwomen, Crystal is a diva for details. To be “Touched, By Yours Truly” is an experience she
knows will propel clients into their destiny and make all of their dreams come true
Have you ever had to pivot?
Finally, amidst COVID, I landed a job that could have provided financial stability for my family. Life was easier, but balancing another person’s vision while desiring my own company to succeed was draining. Sadly, the death of my cousin in the summer of 2021, which coincided with my first son’s dedication to Christ back in 2019, was ironic. I stepped out on faith because the Holy Spirit said to me, work with what’s in my hand: my PR agency and nonprofit. I did not know that the next three years of this season would include working endless contracted jobs executing another’s vision, putting myself out there, understanding my worth, and multiplying the resources I was fortunate to have, whether tangible or not. I also decided to place the PR agency on hold and focus solely on growing my nonprofit with those same PR skills
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
If anyone knows me, they understand these three things: endurance, optimism, & strategy. I stay true to my core even when I acknowledge new information. I intentionally decide to align with new beginnings that help enhance my current stance spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially etc. Throughout this process I am transparent with those near, and even the temporary people we meet on seasonal occasions…even if they are a continual recycled lesson. Remaining true to who you are I believe creates the expectations that people assumed one will live out but most importantly, it directly correlates with the person that I am authentically. One must learn to define themselves and not let trends define them. You create the title, not the other way around…
