We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Crystal Perez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Crystal, appreciate you joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?

I had the privilege of connecting with a beautiful young client that I later found out was a foster child. After cutting and educating her on how to maintain healthy hair, her foster Mom text me later that day thanking me. She mentioned that she had not seen her foster daughter that happy in a long time.

It makes me so happy when I am able make someone’s day by doing what I love.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I’m a hairstylist that believes that hair healthy comes first. I believe in being transparent with my clients and helping build trust with me so they are comfortable in my chair and suite. I’ve been licensed since the Pandemic and prior to that I did my own hair as well as my family before finally deciding to take my own path for my career. I now work along side my oldest daughter Samara and we both enjoy learning new products and styles in the industry. We believe in supporting fellow beauty professionals as well as other women-owned businesses. We love to see EVERYONE succeed…there is enough room at the table for everyone to eat.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

I gave birth to her 20 years ago! My oldest daughter is my rock and a huge supporter. Samara got her license last year and has been learning from me as well as other very knowledgeable individuals we work with. She never saw herself as a hairstylist and now she’s amazing at formulating colors for clients. She’s been great with the clients and learning new techniques. I can’t wait to see how far she is going to grow.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?

I absolutely would go back and choose this profession, maybe I would have pushed to get here earlier in life but things work the way they are supposed to in the long run. I’m extremely blessed and grateful for every trial and error that has gotten me here.
