We recently connected with Crystal Paredes and have shared our conversation below.
Crystal, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
My defining moment was when I realized my calling was to become an aesthetician. I was 38 years old and began developing cystic acne. I became depressed in what what seems like now overnight. I avoided gatherings throughout this period of my life. I attempted so many remedies to aid my skin from the internet, including accutane. I eventually visited an aesthetician. Through that connection I started to grasp more knowledge of skin and the importance of taking care of it. From that point on I knew I wanted to empower women with knowledge to take care of their skin. I found it super important to specialize in skin of color. I knew it would take an abundance of practice and studying, but I knew I was up for the challenge. I decided to take my pain and struggle and used those feelings and experience to fuel my new passion ! I went to school during COVID and became a licensed aesthetician and laser technician. I currently work at a Medical Spa and perform all corrective skincare treatments. I fulfilled my original goal to specialize in skin of color. My journey is far from over, I want to continue sharing my knowledge with others willing to listen through educational courses, seminars, and social media on how to safely treat skin, especially skin of color.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Crystal here! I am 42 years young, mother of 3 young adults. I am a practicing Medical Aesthetician, Professional Laser Technician, and Medical Assistant. I love to correcting skin! I dove into beauty industry after combating cystic acne in my late 30s. My goal has always been to help others surrounding all things skin. I knew I could create a lasting impact by continuing to develop within my own craft due to my own skin journey. I currently work in a medical spa and focus on skin correcting through non invasive procedures. I help my clients with hyperpigmentation, acne, scars, anti aging, laser hair removal, tattoo removal, laser facials, and skin tightening, just to name a few. I use radio-frequency micro-needling, chemical peels, hydrofacials, and laser resurfacing treatments with nearly all of my clients. I often combine these treatments in one setting for optimal results. I believe my education sets me apart from others, along with the total understanding of what I call the “skin story.” I love for my clients to gains full understanding on why they are using a product or why I a recommending a certain treatment. I believe this makes them feel more comfortable. Knowing and trusting the person supporting you with your skin journey I find is so important. I love helping my clients find that inner beauty again!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I have utilized for growing my client base has been self promotion through social media platforms. I am apart of an amazing team, which helps that prides itself for its social media presence called NWME Aesthetics located in Carrollton, Texas. Showcasing before and after photos, with client consent of course, has proven to be the most effective way to gain new clients interest and trust in the process. I also enjoy making educational post and videos that are entertaining and trendy to cater to all audiences. I support my clients through their skin journey not only in our spa, but by building them a client at home skin care routine. The skin care regimens help the client achieve optimal results.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I feel training and remaining a forever student will always push you to continue to navigate through the beauty industry. I believe that it is important to always research things you’ve never done before in order to achieve different results. Utilizing any and all resources possible to feel comfortable in your abilities. Then you can showcase your artwork and be a resource for the next new set of aestheticians.
