Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Crystal Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Crystal, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Several things are required to be successful at anything, especially business. First you need to have a goal you are trying to reach or set one. Second you need to create a map or guide of steps you will take to reach that goal. Third you need to have the discipline to stick with a routine or schedule, to follow the steps in your guideline and remain consistent with it. Fourth you need to have the timeline you are looking for to reach your goal. Be reasonable when setting the time frame. It’s ok if you mess up and have to restart. As long as you keep going until the goal is accomplished.
When I say I am going to do something and don’t write it down most of the time it does not get done. When I create a to do list and write down what I set out to accomplish it gets completed.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely! My goal for the book Candace Is Safe is to turn Candace into a sequel of books and household name. I would like her to become a role model for kids in foster care. Candace knows the struggles and fears of being in foster care and being separated from her family. She is dealing with these challenges one day at a time and is willing to accept the help that is being offered to her. Kids in care need to read and see this. In return this will help them to see they are not the only one going through these circumstances and learning new skills how to cope with the circumstances they are dealing with.
My goal for CVM Designs is to keep and maintain two or three consistent commercial clients who have ongoing business throughout the year.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Self-publishing a book is not easy. My original book for Candace Is Safe included pictures I drew with stick figures as the characters. I convinced myself it looked like a kid drew the pictures children would be drawn to it and want to read it. However, as my business sense was expanding and I grew professionally and personally I realized if I wanted to present my book as a real book it needed to be as professional as possible. It took a long time before my book was ready to be published and released when I revamped it. There were so many times I wanted to give up but I kept going. I would put it down and put it to the side but I would always go back to it. I also learned things that you are not strong at, or have never done before, it’s ok to ask for help. When you want something done right you want to reach out and ask for help. Most of us have that attitude we do not want to ask for help and do everything on our own. As you grow you learn to humble yourself and seek help when needed.
