We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Crystal Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, thanks for joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
Let’s be honest Corporate America has EVERYTHING wrong in any industry! Lol But, specifically here, they have taken the heart and soul out of it. It’s been replaced with greed and corruption. People don’t take care personal anymore so it’s viewed as a job instead of an opportunity to heal someone.
You hear so much about “Big Pharma” but people really don’t know what or to the depth this flows when we talk about them. I encourage everyone to do their homework on them, allow yourself to fall down the rabbit hole and you’ll start to connect the dots!

Crystal, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I love this one! Peace and Love,
I’m Crystal aka Doula Crys known by brand of “The Birth Homie/Homegirl doula!” I am a full spectrum doula who specializes in Sex, Birth, and Postpartum. My special focus is the Plis size community (since I’m a plus size girlie myself)! I’m a full time mom, friend, sister, daughter ect! lol I am a lover of the arts and a true creative by nature! I’m a healer, a lover and a divine being.
My Journey started at just 8 years old! I used to watch a TV show called “A baby story” and I was OBSESSED! I knew then I wanted to be a part of the birthing process! I made healthcare a part of my career my entire working life, but my true calling has always been childbirth! After years of shadowing, researching and schooling, I found myself working alongside the best in the Labor and delivery field! But somehow I still felt out of place. I officially met my first Doula while I was working as an NICU aide. She explained to me what her job all entailed and I was so intrigued! She allowed me to shadow a birth at her birthing center and I got HOOKED! Not realizing I had already served as a doula to friends and families throughout my lifetime and I was so excited to know it was a profession! I immediately dove into my research and taking plenty of classes! I learned that there were several different levels and types of doulas to which I took on two other specialties (sex and postpartum). I truly love what I do and I plan on doing it for the rest of my life!
The services I provide are more than just the basics. I provide a comfort element and let you know from start to end WE ARE FAMILY! I encourage my clients to be themselves, no code switching! We stand up for each other in that way of “WE ALL WE GOT!”
I can honestly say, I’m most proud of my brand and what it stands for. I’m definitely the homegirl in many settings why should my business be any different!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what helped me build my reputation is me! So, in today’s social media and business way of life, people are searching for authenticity. I can honestly say I’ve never been afraid to be myself rather, it was a low vibrational or high vibrational, or somewhere in the middle. Let’s be honest we aren’t always our best self and one thing about me is I’m gonna show up and be myself no matter what’s going on because sometimes that’s all I have to give in the moment. Being 100% authentic to who I am as a person and not necessarily just my business or being a mom or being a family member etc. helped me with my market

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Honestly, life be lifeing, lol we all know that I have gone through so many tower moments and finding myself and finding my business while being 13 hours away from everyone I know and everything I know. I literally decided one day to pack up me and my child and move to a completely different place where I didn’t know a soul nor did I know anything about the area other than what I read online And maybe it’s been an experience! But no matter what has happened I have always continued to try to stay true to myself. Sometimes I’m in and out when it comes to my business because I need to draw energy into myself and into my daughter in order to get through whatever moment we’re in, but whatever we’re going through I Stay going. Do what I need to do to keep my mind on straight and keep the chaos at a minimum whatever that looks like lol. As I said in this interview, I’m literally going through some extreme Tower moments, but I’m never going to overshadow the opportunities that God has presented to me while I’m in the midst of the fire. Any true believer knows that you get tested the most when you’re doing your best and when you’re doing your best, you’re setting yourself up to pass any test.
