We recently connected with Crystal J. Huang and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal J. Huang, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I am the producer and director for the movie Dark Feathers. The film is a suspenseful thriller set in dance, partly based on my dancing experiences. In the film, the female photographer Kate’s ballroom dancing partners were all killed. Detective Remy becomes her new partner and tries to find the cause of her partner’s death. But the film reveals a different answer at the end.
This film tries to show that the so-called “truth” often cannot be deciphered by reasoning, even when all the evidence is in hand.
The audience will see the best possible ballroom dances a movie screen can possibly provide, accompanied by the beautiful original theme music, “Unchaseable”.
This is a work about female power, female love, and female dignity.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I believe the freedom to creat not for duty is the most rewarding. Getting recognized is almost as important because that’s how a creation is judged.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe the education level of the general public would dominantly affect the reception of arts in society. The language of art can be learned. A mind that is able to appreciate art can be trained. I think society should welcome the AI era for its potential to liberate people from labor and allow them to have more choices other than earning a living. That would provide a vast space for creative works, art included.
