We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Crystal Glaze. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Crystal below.
Hi Crystal, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve had the pleasure to be part of is with Maplestreet Pix, our local documentarian photographers. They have created projects and a space for creatives to share their work and talk and network with one another. Through these projects, they formed the Caldwell County Creatives Collective, a supportive network that continues to grow and inspire our community.
Our latest project focused on three categories: self-portrait, juxtaposition, and motion. I chose to explore a self-portrait and motion, which challenged me to step outside my comfort zone.
What makes this project incredibly meaningful to me is the sense of community and camaraderie it has cultivated. There’s no sense of competition; instead, we share a mutual love and respect for each other’s work. Through these projects,
Being part of this collective has been immensely rewarding for me as a photographer and creative. It has not only allowed me to explore our town and meet fellow artists but has also helped me overcome barriers, such as opening up to strangers and sharing both my art and personal stories without hesitation.
Looking forward, I’m excited about the future projects we’ll undertake together and the opportunities they will bring to further enrich our community and artistic endeavors.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I discovered my love for photography during my twenties while modeling, collaborating with talented photographers who sparked my interest. Life-changing moments, such as my mom battling cancer and my son spending 77 days in the NICU, ignited my creative side. In desperate need of change, my husband and I moved to Lockhart, where I found photography as an emotional outlet. During the pandemic, I bought my first Canon and practiced with my son and newborn. To kick off my name, I offered free shoots for teachers in our local area, and many of them remain loyal clients today.
In January 2023, I took a leap of faith and reached out to the 78644 Podcast, our local podcast, offering my services as a photographer. This opportunity opened doors to collaborate with inspiring individuals like Steven and Kate Collins, propelling my journey in music photography. From capturing moments at festivals like Old Settlers Fest to being featured in the Austin Bergstrom airport music project, I’ve had the privilege of documenting the stories and passions of musicians locally and beyond. Although music photography is what I seem to be doing most of, I still photograph weddings, events, and family shoots.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There’s something truly magical about creating a space during a photo session where people can momentarily forget their worries and embrace the present moment. It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness their confidence grow as they see themselves reflected in images that capture their essence and emotions.
Being part of these moments, where I can contribute to someone’s happiness and memories, is what fuels my passion for photography. It’s a privilege and an honor to connect with people in such a meaningful way through my work.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I would say what really highlights my resilience is my experience as a stay-at-home mom to two little ones, while also being a dedicated wife and pursuing my passion for photography. Balancing these roles can be incredibly demanding, especially with the constant juggling act of childcare, household responsibilities, and editing sessions that often stretch late into the night.
Despite the challenges, I’ve learned to embrace the chaos and find moments of creativity and inspiration amidst the busyness of daily life. It’s taught me patience, perseverance, and the ability to adapt to ever-changing schedules and priorities. There’s a certain resilience that comes from being able to switch gears from mom mode to creative mode at a moment’s notice, all while maintaining a positive outlook and dedication to my craft.
