We were lucky to catch up with Crystal Dean recently and have shared our conversation below.

CRYSTAL, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?

Building Leaders Cheer journey to securing our first client(s) began with a bold vision and determination.

Social media and referrals served as our launch pad – with a simple introduction to the business outlining the focus on cheer development and character building, the message struck a chord with parents who had been searching for a cheerleading program that emphasized physical performance but also personal growth!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’ve been a cheerleader most of my adolescent life up until college. And I started coaching for recreational teams in 2019.

Building Leaders Cheer was formed in 2023 after my co-founder and I spent a season of coaching together. Individually we have over 15 years of cheer experience and ultimately we decided to take the next step in forging our own business.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

We focused on showing what makes Building Leaders Cheer special. By sharing leader achievements, behind-the-scenes moments, and valuable cheer tips, we connected with our community.

Using our brand colors (sky blue, white, and black) and posting consistently helped create a recognizable look. We also engaged with followers by responding to comments, sharing tagged posts, and collaborating with partners like Phortitude Fitness, SportsCom, and Heat Level Radio

How do you keep your team’s morale high?

We make it a priority to celebrate every success, no matter how big or small, because recognition boosts confidence. Respect and encouragement are at the heart of everything we do, creating a positive environment where everyone feels valued. We also support growth by helping our leaders improve both on and off the mat, ensuring they develop the skills they need to succeed.
