Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Crystal Cromer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Crystal, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned to bake from my family and believe it or not high school home economics. Learning to follow a recipes has allowed me to make delicious desserts and meals. I learn to create beautiful cakes and cake pops by watching YouTube videos and watching some of the best bakers create beautiful desserts on video. I perfected my skills with trial and error along with a lot of practice. I’ve always known I wanted to be a creator, but growing up with a family of educators and factory workers this was not an option. If I had known what I know now I would have gone to culinary arts school to learn to create my own recipes and the arts of desserts. I would have gotten a degree in business so that I would have been better prepared for the business part of the home bakery. Being a successful entrepreneur is not something that can be learned on YouTube. The skills that are most essential for my craft is the ability to create cake art using buttercream icing and fondant. Being able to sculpture cakes into different shapes is also essential and makes my business unique from others. When it comes to obstacles in cake designing its always keeping up with the new trends. I am now taking more classes to learn the more difficult techniques and keep up with the trends in the cake world..
Crystal, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the owner, creator, and baker of Crystals DC Pops, the DC stands for delicious cake. I create custom designer cakes for birthdays, weddings, and all other celebrations. I specialized in cake pops in all shapes and themes for any occasion. Crystals DC Pops started selling cake pops and dipped treats in 2016 and in 2018 I added decorative cakes to the menu. I started making cake pops and cakes for my children and family celebrations years prior to selling them. During a difficult financial time in my life I decided to start selling my delicious desserts.
I am most proud of the custom cakes and cake decorating, I can take any celebration theme and make it into a great cake. Not only does the cake and cake pops look great but they also taste great. Cakes are moist and baked fresh for every order. Along with the cake pops, I also create dipped Rice Krispies, Oreos, pretzels, marshmallows, and strawberries for a beautiful treats table display. Crystal’s DC Pops is different from other home bakers because I provide a great service experience when you order to ensure my clients are happy. I love to create something magical for children to enjoy as well for memories that will last a lifetime.
I am also proud of the Cake & Sip with Crystals DC Pops, this allows me to use my experience as an educator to create a fun relaxing event and teach cake decorating to participants.
Cake & Sip is an exciting and edible spin on the painting with a twist. During each event our guest will enjoy music, food and drinks in a fun atmosphere as we enjoy decorating our own individual cakes and taking them home to eat! There are scheduled seasonal events for adults and kids available throughout the year, or schedule your private Cake & Sip!
All things done and created by Crystals DC Pops are done with love and God on my side.
I create and post videos and content daily of my cake creations on Instagram @Crystals_DC_Pops, Facebook @Crystals DC Pops and also Tik Tok @CrystalsDCPops.
Custom orders and Cake & Sip can be ordered on my website www.crystalsdcpops.com.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me is word of mouth from my clients that have a great experience with me. I have a 5 star rating on google review.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media has also been a great source for my business. I post videos at least 5 times a week and try to share content of all orders that I want to keep making. Although every order is custom when people can see what you have done for others they usually want it for them selves. I did learn that if there is something I didn’t enjoy making, I don’t post it.
