We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Crystal B a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
For years, I worked full-time as a store manager at a luxury boutique. Makeup was always something I loved, but I never imagined it as a full-time career. At that time, I was in school for business and believed my path was to climb the retail ladder and eventually manage or lead within that industry. I genuinely enjoyed my job — the people, the structure, and the stability. But deep down, I knew there was another gift in me that I hadn’t fully explored.
Around that time, I started feeling led by God to take a leap of faith — to leave the only career I had ever known and pursue my passion for beauty full-time. It didn’t make sense on paper. I didn’t see many makeup artists openly talking about the financial stability of being a full-time MUA, so there were a lot of unknowns. I was scared, confused, and unsure if I was making the right decision. But instead of letting fear guide me, I chose to let obedience lead me.
When I finally turned in my two weeks’ notice, I remember feeling both terrified and free. Two weeks later — as if to confirm I was walking in my purpose — I booked my very first celebrity client. That moment showed me that God truly was with me. From there, everything began to move faster than I expected. My business grew rapidly, my clientele expanded week after week, and opportunities began coming my way that I never could have imagined.
I went from being a full-time store manager to a full-time business owner — a transition that taught me more about faith, courage, and purpose than I could have ever learned in a classroom. Today, that leap of faith has not only allowed me to build a thriving beauty business, but it has also inspired me to create my organization, A Boss Through Christ, where I teach others how to align faith and business.
Looking back, I often think — what if I had never taken that risk? What if I had let fear keep me comfortable? I would’ve missed out on the life and purpose God had waiting for me. Taking that leap was scary, but it turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Crystal B, founder of Crystal B Beaute. I’m a professional makeup artist, beauty educator, and also the founder of A Boss Through Christ — an organization dedicated to helping others align their faith with their business and purpose. My journey into the beauty industry wasn’t something I planned. I started as a full-time store manager at a luxury boutique while studying business, believing my future was in retail management.
While I truly loved what I did, I knew there was a deeper calling on my life. Makeup was a gift that came naturally to me, but I never saw it as a possible full-time career — until God placed it on my heart to take a leap of faith. It was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made, but I chose obedience over comfort. Two weeks after putting in my notice, I booked my very first celebrity client — a clear sign that I was walking in purpose.
What I Do
Today, I specialize in makeup artistry for weddings and everyday clients, helping women look and feel their best for some of life’s most special moments. I’ve also had the honor of working with celebrity clients on occasion, which has been an amazing experience. My goal is always to enhance natural beauty while creating a peaceful, faith-filled experience where my clients feel confident and valued.
In addition to my artistry, I also mentor and educate aspiring makeup artists and entrepreneurs. Through A Boss Through Christ, I teach others how to grow their businesses with excellence, integrity, and faith — showing that you can thrive spiritually and professionally at the same time.
The Problem I Solve
Many of my clients come to me not just for makeup, but for the experience — a moment to feel beautiful, empowered, and seen. For my students and mentees, I help them overcome fear, doubt, and confusion about how to balance purpose with profit. I show them how to build something meaningful, rooted in both faith and hard work.
What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart is my faith-driven approach to business and artistry. I don’t just see my work as makeup — I see it as ministry. Every client and student I encounter is treated with love, intention, and care. My mission is to use my talent to serve others and reflect God’s light through everything I do.
What I’m Most Proud Of
I’m most proud of how far my business has come since taking that leap of faith. Watching my clientele grow, seeing brides glow with confidence, and helping others discover their God-given purpose through A Boss Through Christ has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.
What I Want People to Know
I want people to know that it’s possible to build a successful business while keeping God at the center of it all. Include God in everything you do. Dream as big as you want, work hard toward it, and trust His direction even when the path doesn’t make sense. Take risks in obedience — because my journey is living proof that it can be done.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve had to unlearn is that success isn’t about being the best — it’s about being obedient to where God is leading you.
In the beginning of my journey as a makeup artist, I wanted so badly to be a celebrity MUA. I thought that working with big names was what defined my worth and validated my talent. I would look at others in the industry and think, “If I could just get there, then I’ll know I’ve made it.” But as my business started to grow, God began to shift my perspective.
Over time, I realized there will always be someone out there who’s more experienced, more talented, or further along — and that’s okay. None of that takes away from what God is doing in my life or the assignment He’s given me. My focus had to move from comparison to calling.
I started noticing that many of the women who came to me for makeup weren’t just coming to get beautiful — they were coming in broken, tired, or in need of encouragement. What started as a makeup appointment often turned into a conversation that reminded them of their worth, their purpose, and God’s love for them. That’s when everything changed for me.
I realized that God didn’t call me to be a celebrity makeup artist — He called me to have impact. My purpose wasn’t about status or recognition; it was about using my gift to help others experience transformation, inside and out.
Now, I see my business as a space for divine encounters — where beauty meets healing and where confidence is restored. My goal isn’t to be on top, but to serve others and make a difference through what God has entrusted me with.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I’ve found for growing my clientele has been staying consistent with who I am. In this industry, it’s easy to look around and feel pressured to copy what others are doing — but I’ve learned that when you stay true to who God created you to be, you naturally attract the people who are meant to be connected to you.
Authenticity speaks louder than any marketing strategy. I show up as myself — with excellence, professionalism, and purpose — and that’s what draws the right clients in. When people see that you take your craft seriously, they begin to take you seriously too.
So for me, the key has been simple: stay consistent, stay true, and stay aligned with who God has called me to be. The right people will always find their way to you when you’re walking in purpose.
