We were lucky to catch up with Crystal A. Pratt, CCC recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Envision Bliss Coaching, LLC was created as a result of working professionally for nearly one decade within various colleges and universities. While serving as a college recruiter and admissions specialist, I discovered my life’s purpose which is to assist other people with finding their own.
This passion was awakened in me after advising hundreds of students, I realized that a lot of them were pursuing career paths to either please their parents, adhere to what they believed society expected them to pursue, or they simply were choosing their majors based on ease and comfort (playing it safe)…not necessarily interest and passion.
Therefore, often times than not, I found myself asking students, “Okay, so what do you REALLY want to do with your life?” “If you could snap your fingers, what future do you envision for yourself?” Their response to these questions was when the fun began for me. Assisting students with digging deep within themselves to discover the intersection between what they are passionate about in life, the skills that they possess, and the career path that they would truly like to pursue, was always such an exciting process for me!
I was always so fascinated and honored that these students chose me to reveal their innermost dreams and ideas pertaining to their careers and even business endeavors. These experiences (in addition to my intense desire to become self employed and not have to ask someone else for PTO out of my own life!) lead me to open my own career coaching practice appropriately named, Envision Bliss Coaching.
Crystal A., before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As much as I love helping others, my destiny to become a Certified Career Coach was no where near my wildest dreams!
I initially pursued college in hopes of becoming a successful music producer. Yet, as fate (and Winston-Salem State University’s rigorous music program) would have it, I ended up switching my major and graduating with a degree in Mass Communications. Shortly after graduating, I landed a job in advertising, then was promoted to my company’s marketing department and was well on my way to pursuing my new dream career of becoming a big shot marketing executive!
That was until the economy tanked in 2008 and I found myself laid off and out of a job for two years!
It was during this time that I was really able to take a hard, honest look at my life and reassess what truly made me happy. My marketing career was cool, yet it didn’t set my soul on fire with purpose and drive.
Yet, apparently God knew exactly where my life should go and He began to lead the way. The first job that I accepted after the recession was at a local University, and the rest is history! My love for advising and guiding students regarding their career path (especially after the journey that I had gone through!), sparked a flame within me to start my own career coaching practice.
Envision Bliss Coaching assists working adults who are stressed out and unfulfilled, discover and transition their life purpose into a career or small business that they love. Depending on the client, prayer, meditation and/or energy healing techniques are used to achieve their desired outcome.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me comes from in person events that I have attended/served as a vendor at, or simply from flyers that I’ve placed throughout local coffee shops and restaurants.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Entrepreneurial You by Dorie Clark is a book that certainly helped to broaden my thinking and philosophy as an entrepreneur. Especially as a solopreneur career coach, it’s extremely important for me to maintain a healthy balance between successfully assisting my clients, and maintaining a proper self care routine. Therefore, this book continues to serve as a resource that inspires me to work smarter not harder, and to continue to strive for multiple (and passive!) streams of income.
Other resources that significantly impact my entrepreneurial philosophy includes my continuous participation in meditation, yoga, energy healing, and intuition development classes. Incorporating these practices into my daily routine truly allows me to maintain a healthy mind, body, and spirit for myself and the services that I extend to my clients as well.
