We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Crxss Bonex a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Crxss , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Honestly I wish I would have started sooner. It’s crazy cause you look back and you realize that a lot of moments you had were opportunities and you didn’t jump on them in the moment. I remember back in highschool this artist came in to have a Ted talk kind of lesson, after he was done I saw his shoes and at the time I restored shoes. I asked him if I could fix them up for him he said yes and I made that connection there. Who would have thought 5 years later the same guy would be my mentor. If I would have saw that opportunity sooner to possibly be under his wing then maybe I would have been happier doing something I love faster in my life. As a life lesson don’t let opportunities pass between your fingers, jump at eveything life throws your way with 110% effort!

Crxss , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Taylor Luna but i go by Crxss Bonex in the art world. I use to work with a bunch of uv and graffiti techniques but I’ve grown more into other mediums that hav expanded my taste and perspective on art. I’ve been doing art my whole life. I started to draw when I was 6-7 and grew from there. My middle school/ high-school was mainly art focused, they both helped forum me into the artist I am today. Today my art is more focused around pop art/ collaging instead of UV and graffiti. My style of what I like in my art peices hasn’t changed as well as the deeper meaning behind all of them hasn’t changed ethier. I feel like as an artist you have to constantly grow and explore in multiple medium to feel grasp the whole concept of your own work. I feel like you can relate this to life as well, you have to be open to new experiences to grow and without those moments you won’t be able to fully grasp who you are as an individual. A lot of my art peices talk about life and how we tread through it. The expreinces we have and the appreciation we should have for being here in the moment. A lot of my art also talks about the flip side to that the hurtful emotions we go through in the life time like death or a break up. Life isn’t always going to be perfect but those experiences we go through make us up of who we are today and makes us stronger for the next day. Instead of looking so much into the negatives embrace them and look at them as moments of growth of who you are as person. Art and life can go hand and hand. We express our emotions through our creative side, Art can help you express the feeling you can’t in words. Art is important!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being an artist wether you want to be a rapper, a dancer, an athlete, etc. you will always have the people who doubt you. My whole life people around me doubt me or don’t believe in me but it shouldn’t matter. You aren’t doing this for them your doing this for you, and once you start doing what you love that journey will bring you towards the people who believe in you and care about your happiness. I’ll never forget in school I had this vice principal sit me down and ask me if I really wanted to be there and of course I said yes, but to my surprise instead of helping me he talked down to me. He told me he thinks I should be somewhere else and I don’t belong at that school. So instead of getting upset I said ok, watch this! Here I am! Graduated and still doing what I love everyday. Sometimes you have to push back the negative to get to were you want. It’s always hard but if your doing it for you and what your passionate about that push back will feel weightless.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The only goal I have In my journey is to meet people. Yes it would be cool or whatever to be a fan out artist but that’s not the purpose of being an artist. Your journey makes who you are who you are! The people you meet are so Interesting and you can learn so much from everyone, their journey. To have that moment of an amazing convo with someone is priceless. That memory will always be there if your truly cherish the words people speak to you. Being successful is also weird. What is your definition of success? Is it money? Love ? Fame? Or could it be happiness ? Family? Core memories? Success can be defined in any way. I personally view success as being happy with my family making those core memories with my freinds and family. Success for me is being able to go have lunch with my sister mom and girlfriend on a Sunday. Success for me is being able to have such a wonderful Job working with Awsome people and meeting Awsome people everyday. What’s your definition of success ?
