We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cruz Freely. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cruz Freely below.
Cruz Freely, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned to do what I do by studying my craft. I look at who’s been successful doing what I do and I take notes. Everyone’s story is different, but at the core of them all, there’s hard work and dedication. I don’t think there’s any way I could have sped up the process to be honest. If 10,000 hours is what it takes to master a skill, I gotta have at least 50,000 under my belt. You can’t fake that, it speaks through your work. The skills that I think were most essential were attention to detail, quality over quantity, and persistence. Those were the skills that allowed me to reach the point that I’m at now. The only real obstacle I’ve ever had is myself. Struggling with being a perfectionist and trying to make things perfect draws the process out sometimes. It always turns out as it should in the end though. I’ve learned, even in times of “failure”.

Cruz Freely, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Cruz Freely, the name speaks for itself. My art is all about encouraging free living. At heart, I’m a recording artist, but in actuality I’m much more. My company Top Self is designed to encourage others to be their best selves. While my main focus is music, I also do production, songwriting, graphic design, photography, videography, philanthropy, and consulting/creative directing. I got into the industry independently. I used resources like social media to create and expand my brands. I encourage my clients to trust their ideas, and I help bring them to life.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think society can support artists by embracing them. Artists tell the stories of life in all forms. Respect is what artists need. They need to be heard, they need to be embraced, and they need to be felt. I believe art rules the world. Society can support art by giving it a place to live.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is make my art accessible globally. The messages in my music can help people worldwide, so the mission is to make Cruz Freely world renown. My art and my brand have a lot to offer to humanity as whole, and my mission is to impact as many lives as I can. Whether through music, visual art, photography, or philanthropy, I believe we have a lot offer the world.
