We were lucky to catch up with Crown Vega recently and have shared our conversation below.
Crown , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
In the beginning during the early stages of stage performances I would get asked if I had music that was available to purchase. It inclined me to start the process of recording music to release as an artist as well as work in merchandise.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born and raised in Memphis, TN by my Grandmother who introduced me to music like the blues and R&B soul. As a kid I loved music but it wasn’t until I heard a tape by DJ Paul of Three 6 that made me want rap. I skipped school early in the 12th grade to record my first song but it wasn’t until I moved back to Memphis after my Army enlistment I decided to take rap music and songwriting seriously. I learned to record and mix my own music under the tutelage of my brother Melvin “Mottini” Wilson where I worked for some local artist helping them shape their sound as well as complete my first project VEGA. What sets me apart is that even though I may sound similar or are compared to other artist I still have my own sound that’s unique. For future clients I treat their music like my own and for fans there is new music on the way giving them a more in depth vision of who I am.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding is when my art is appreciated by people that not only can related to and listen for themselves but share it with others.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal is to reach as many new fans as possible with music that they either can enjoy for what ever mood they are in or that they get a lesson from when it’s songs that has a particular message about life.
