We were lucky to catch up with Crown By Mimi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Crown By , appreciate you joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
I use to work at Chase before becoming a full time entrepreneur. When I was first hired I was sitting orientation. We were going over the different types of customers that a representative could come across. How to adapt to each type of personality that way your able to help your customer without overwhelming them. For instance if you have a customer who shy you want to approach them with a softer tone. That always stuck with me because I service many of clients and they all have different personalities and still use that same approach.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Mimi the owner of both Crown By Mimi & Queens Kollection. I have been in the hair industry over 10 years. I’ve began at the age of 16 working professionally in a salon. My very first time ever being in the salon I was invited by my cousin who is a cosmetologist to assist with a photo shoot. Being involved in a team and seeing the models glow from feeling confident was my first spark of wanting to be a hairstylist. Throughout my career I’ve been featured in hair shows, fashion shows and photoshoots. I am most recognized for hair care treatments, silk press & extensions. I take pride in building long lasting relationships with my clients and helping them reach their hair goals. More and more clients are coming to get serviced by me cause they have scalp issues and not sure what to do. I’ve created personalized scalp treatment plans and natural shampoo sets for after care at home to help reduce scalp issues. It the ultimate self care package luxury scalp treatments, massages & confidence booster. I want my clients to feel like Queens from the point they walk in my salon and after they leave.
Have you ever had to pivot?
2020 I was preparing to becoming a new mother of a baby girl. I was feeling stuck and overwhelmed with the long hours I used to work. I knew after my baby was born I wouldn’t be able to continue you on so I joined and online mentorship program and my mentor advise to niche down and become a master of it. In that process I ended up changing my business name, reducing my list of services and expanding my knowledge about haircare. I’ve been focused on how to create the best experience for my clients when getting serviced by me. Since them my income has increased and the best part my clients are so happy with the new changes.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What has helped me build my reputation is staying consistent. Making sure to always promote what sets me apart from other stylist. Using online platform as a tool to creatively advertise my services and products.
