We were lucky to catch up with Cross Rivera recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cross, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission was in front of me but not clear. That is how we start off telling you about Cross Rivera or better known know as Dj Stavros of Global Powerhouse Music Group, lead by Wu-tang Manager Vega Don. 80 Generations was the goal but not the mission. Originally we started off as Christians trying to reach the youth and make a cartoon drawn around faith. But that soon changed and evolved into the story of a musician trying to find his faith again. Having had 2 failed marriages and false crime accusations brought up on him and his wife with a ferocious court proceedings, let’s just say it took lot to be where we are. But what is our mission, you may ask. To bring you inspirational and inspiring music straight to your soul. I want to make music that makes your heart stop and your face drop.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
“Cross…….ya know, like Jesus”. This is how most come to know Mr. Cross Rivera. Upon meeting him, he always throws out the same salutation hen asked his name. “My name is Cross…..ya know………like Jesus”. A Christian Juggalo in corporate America, surrounded by a world full of misfits and rejects, we call them fans, or better yet for my brand we call our fans Hustlers. We hustle day and night, to eat, play and love. Originally we began as a small team out to make a cartoon for anime christian fans. Running into music, animation and design problem right out the gate we did a lot of changing. Here we are 15 years later and we are on the uphill the victory. 80 Generations is a multimedia production company operated by Cross Rivera. What really sets 80 Generations apart from all other companies and labels is it’s operations process. 80 Generations has always been led by creator Cross Rivera.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The music industry has a lot of gimmicks sometimes. What really sets 80 Generations artists apart from the rest is our stage performance and delivery. Practice is essential. We practice weeks before a performance, at least once a day in full choreography. We practice together, play together and fight together. This is what Dj Stavros became infamous for was a great and different performance. With the mask on and long hair swinging, Dj Stavros fastly grew into a street name. Then as time grew families across the nation was listening to mixes and songs from newly signed Dj. Dj Stavros then signed a distribution deal with Global Powerhouse Music Group owned and managed by Vega Don, Manager of the Wu-Tang Management.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a social media presence is hard and time consuming. These days it’s hard to keep up with new songs, new dances (1 created every minute), new hair styles and new clothes. It’s even worse if your an entertainer. Primarily you gotta stay up and active with social media. Without revealing to many of our secrets, I can tell you we follow a very simple, laid out blueprint. Rapper and Mogul Tech N9ne once spoke about this blueprint and what to do each step of the way. It has not changed much since that interview. You have to get your neighborhood to like you, your city to like you, then your state and then go on tour.
