Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Crook Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Crook thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on so far is my last project titled “Inspired By True Events” that released in June of 2021. It’s meaningful for so many reasons. It’s my first full project that I recorded and released during the pandemic. It represents a culmination of experiences and memories all rolled into one complete body of work. I was able to be vulnerable about my experiences as a kid in the streets, through prison, dealing with heartbreak, and coping with loss all on one project. I think it gives more of a humanistic and wholistic perspective of the everyday person that decides to chose to live the street life. Not just a bunch of bravado but the ups and down of being in that lifestyle and the nuances of your life that you experience.
Crook , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born and raised in College Park, Ga. I’ve been an artist all my life. I started writing poems, then songs, and eventually raps which also lead to producing. I think I was born into music. My grandfather and dad were musicians at heart. I think that’s what sets me apart is that my life has been through multiple extremes so I get to pull from those experiences to create art. I’m proud of the way that I keep it authentic. I’m not here to glorify street life, but rather give a perspective that’s rarely seen. I would love for my followers to know how much I appreciate them. I don’t take for granted that people are allowing me to pursue my dreams by supporting my music and tuning into my content. I’ve been doing a freestyle verse everyday on my social media platforms and currently I’m at day 171 of 365 of my year campaign and still got quite a bit of ways to go, but it’s been fun. It started because I wanted to build my TikTok but now it’s helping me grow as an artist. So thank you much for your support.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One thing I’ve had to show resilience on is this 365 day journey of dropping verses on. It’s challenging some days to be original and give great content without getting burnt out. Especially considering I’m not a big social media person. While it’s been fun I’ve had to record verses through Covid, on the road and improvise sometimes when it seems impossible. But I’m thankful I get to experience the love people have for my consistency.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I wanna be the best. The money will come with diligence, but that list means everything to me. I wanna be one of the greats. Long before I decided to be in the streets, success in music has been my dream and I’m not ashamed of that. It’s my first love. I’ll be honest and say that. I love music. I love hip hop with my full being so I want that validation
