We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cristina Pimentel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cristina below.
Hi Cristina , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our firm was originally born from wanting to educate and inspire women of all shapes and sizes to dress themselves in alignment to their core selves. We offered personal styling and wardrobe development services to design an image and assortment that complimented their lifestyles, budgets and aspirations. That organically segwayed into content creation and branding support with the birth of social media. During Covid, we were no longer able to service in-person and many of our clients were trying to adapt their businesses and personal brands to the new demand. We followed suit and started ‘styling’ the brands and businesses of our former clients. Our client roster grew exponetionally and quickly, we became the leading service providers for branding consulting, social media management and business development. In June 2022, I lost my husband and shut down the business for almost 6 months. In the process of rebuilding the infastructure and realiging with my passion, I invested in life/ business coaching and saw the immence neccesity of these kind of curated services for women of color in business/leadership. It also felt like a very natural transgression coming from empowering our clients in other areas. My mission, personally and professionally, is to build visionary women unapologetically from the inside-out to show up as their dream versions so they can attan their dream results.
Cristina , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Fashion was my first love and gave me the tools for expression I didn’t find in school, in sports or in ballet. I would draw croquis and gowns on my parents paystubs at the age of 8. By the age 10, I was adorning my clothing with rips, safety pins and patches. I went to a vocational school for high school, where I learned how to create garments from scratch and that was ultimate permission. I started hosting my own fashion shows in local night clubs (don’t tell my parents), collaborating with other local talent to create curated creative experiences and the rest was history. I moved to NYC in 2009 to attend fashion school and was introduced to the industry as whole. I went on to shadow every fashion week in my early adulthood, I interned at the top magazines at the time like Glamour and Instyle as well as the coolest fashion stylists of color making noise in the entrepenuer space. I started a fashion blog and went freelance while working at Stylesight, one of the top trend forecasting agencies in the industry. I started my paving my self-made way through 2016, where I turned in my NYC apartment and decided to move back home to Massachusetts to start my own styling agency. I know now, that I completely betting on my self blindly because Boston was far from a fashion mecca and I knew I would find my footing. I started working as stylist for Saks Fitfth Avenue in the city, where I felt the most aligned with the trend forward life I was use to. Although a very washed version! I entered a business accelertor program where I learned how to built a real business with my passion to uplift women via image development. in 2018, I went full-time while 7 months pregnant with my son and partner in crime. The business side has taken many forms but what has remained rock solid is that I follow my heart in always doing what I love, regardless of what that looks like everyday. I know I can grow, monetize and sleep at night knowing that through my crafts, I motivate women who look like me to move mountains for themselves. In the last year, I’ve opened up a content creation studio and just launched our confidence & mindset building coaching program. Our clients are corporate powerhouses, community thought leaders, small business owners and real women at the very same time. Through my process of personal and professional growth, I’ve been able to embody most versions of womenhood, making me the perfect partner for their journey to self-curated success. There’s nothing else I’d rather be doing.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency is the alpha-omega formula to making a name for yourself, regardless of your industry. As flashy as our world has gotten, there’s still no method like longevity that beats sticking to your thing. As often as I’ve pivoted and even when I travel into other subject matters or markets, my message of unwavering women empowerment rides with my brand. The core of why you do should never change, regardless of the rooms you enter. That commitment doesn’t go unseen and starts to build recognition in rooms you haven’t even yet. This adds weight into your reputation and boost your credibility tremendusly. It’s so important to always move with your similar message and not jump at the opportunity to ride just another trend. Have fun with what this means too, my brand name was originally The Fuschia Files, I later dyed my hair a plummy-fuschia color and am now known for my token vibrant locks. It’s made me easy to remember and hard to forget in any space. With time and intention, you become a novelty embodiment of your brand. That can’t be replicated and that’s the unique value only you bring.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Personal branding reigns supreme on social networks. Letting your audience in on how you carry your mission develops trust and empowers real connections. I didnt always follow this strategy, I very much belived in educational and oblivious content because it was personal to me but I only saw real growth when I just became a person with a passion on the other side of the screen. Showing your audcience where the magic happens and how that looks uniquely to you, attracts like minded indiviuals and community.
