We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cristina Lozoya a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cristina , thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
One of the key differentiators of my business is the meticulous attention to detail and personalized care that each of my clients receives. In an industry where many providers often follow a one-size-fits-all approach, I ensure that every client who enters my studio is given a unique, tailored experience. This starts with personalized consultations, where I assess the client’s needs, preferences, and natural features to offer them the best possible service—whether it’s lash extensions, semi-permanent henna for brows, lash lifts, or brow laminations.
By focusing on these personalized evaluations, I can craft services that not only meet but exceed expectations, ensuring the health and beauty of their lashes and brows. This personalized approach not only enhances results but creates a stronger connection with my clients, leading to long-term trust and satisfaction. My name is Cristina Lozoya, a proud Mexican born on the beautiful border between Ciudad Juárez and El Paso, and currently practicing in the vibrant ‘Sun City.’ I have been working in the beauty industry for 9 years, specializing in eyelash extensions and brow services. My journey began in 2015 when I first entered the world of cosmetology. I was inspired to dive into this industry by my passion for enhancing natural beauty and the joy I felt when helping others feel more confident in their appearance.
Throughout my career, I’ve made it a priority to continually educate myself, attending training and certification programs in various locations such as Mexico City and Dallas, Texas, as well as participating in multiple local and online trainings and in-person conferences. This dedication to professional growth has helped me stay ahead in an ever-evolving industry.
Like many small business owners, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges—especially in building a brand from the ground up. Balancing high-quality service with a personalized touch has been a learning curve, but it has also become my greatest strength.
My studio offers a range of specialized services, including eyelash extensions, semi-permanent henna for brows, lash lifts, and brow laminations. What sets me apart is my commitment to providing highly personalized care. One of the most resilient experiences I’ve faced was navigating the challenges of running a small local business during a global pandemic. Going through those moments of uncertainty and fear was one of the biggest obstacles in both my career and my life. At home, it was just the three of us—my mother, my grandmother, and me—trying to stay afloat. We were extremely cautious with our health, as my grandmother was in a delicate state, and we were all fearful about what would happen to our jobs and my business.
At just 24 years old, with only a few years of experience but a strong drive to succeed, I found myself in a situation that tested my strength. Despite the adversities, life gave me the opportunity to overcome these challenges. I was fortunate to reopen my business and welcome back the clients who continued to support my journey, for which I’m forever grateful
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the most challenging aspects of my journey has been unlearning old habits and adopting new ones, especially given all the misinformation I received at the beginning of my career as a lash artist. I took my first course in 2017, at a time when information about this industry was scarce, almost nonexistent. I had to travel to other countries to stay updated and learn from various sources since the knowledge I needed wasn’t available in my city. This motivated me to dive deeper into the industry, dedicating myself to refining and perfecting my services to the highest standard.
