We recently connected with Cristina Chavez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cristina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Hello there everyone! My name is Cristina Chavez, and I love to Bring You All Back Into Your Yards! I have a mission in life to do this through my vehicle company called “AZ 1 Lawn at a Time”. It has this name because of the fact that I wish to spend the most important part of my time in learning how to inspire each potential client to share with me what will need to be created by us in their yard to make this yard a place the family longs to be more and more.
Our humble company has been a family in itself, which has been utilized for the stage-setting process to build the type of yard which encourages the building of family bonds, bettering relationships, and welcoming the most memorable experiences.
When I think about ways of explaining what my mission is in life, it makes me laugh a bit because I am a simple ordinary woman, a single mother of 3 beautiful children who has fought hard to become a Contractor in a field that has almost no female presence whatsoever. You see, when I was growing up and became a teenage wife & parent I had to put food on the table and strive to hold on to a relationship that was strained.
An so 5 yrs. ago I found myself working on a farm and part time at the airport hauling luggage instead of being there with my children as a single parent.
The thing that we did great and that left a lifetime impression upon me was the work we did surrounding landscape, installing synthetic turf and pavers.
I was inspired by mentors like Sis. Christy, who prayed with me an exercised me spiritual wise and emotional wise. I had friends introducing me to books like Think & Grow Rich, Rich Dad Poor Dad, and the Law Of Attraction. An one day a confidant challenged me to reach out and ask my loving Father and Mother for their support in giving up the farm job and earning my Contractor License. I knew the love of making the regular old yard into a sanctuary or safe haven was a mission for which I could take pride in for a lifetime…so I took the challenge of getting out of my fears of not succeeding…and stepped out on a hesitant but growing faith. Today I am so glad that I did!
This story has come true because of so many people who have seen the gift I had inside of me before I ever did…and opened doors…gave referrals…ensured I had time to make adjustments and corrections…and prayed me into the best possible position to make it. And so my Mission is about proving that women can make it out of ordinary jobs that hold them away from their babies…my story behind the mission is one of Using My Love For My Children, tapping into my love for making my Parents proud, and the utter need to prove to myself that I am worthy of believing in my dream to create My Neighbor’s Dream…Making It Come True Through Development of Their Yards.. one at a time.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a woman owned contractor. I have beat the odd and have received the support from hundreds of families across the valley. Customers all the way from Cornville, Goodyear to apache Junction. What sets us apart from everyone is that I believe there is work for everyone and I am here to rise with everyone not just me. I pour my heart into everything I do and I do my best to help everyone have their dream yard. I am proud of myself and everyone in the AZ one lawn team that gives their all to bringing Quality work to our homeowners. We are a small business that installs turf, hardscapes and initial landscape. We strive for quality vs quantity.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn fear. Coming in to a backyard every time and not knowing who I was going to talk to was so hard at the very beginning. I struggled with looking at people in the eyes. I realized they wanted me to be there and I should not be afraid to connect. I am so grateful for time and experiences because they have helped me grow in so many ways.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source has been social media. People are on all social media platforms like facebook, tiktok, instagram etc and they see what you are able to do. They see how you are as a person not just business. I love sharing my heart and joy with the world and the love of helping others.
