We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cristian Gomez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cristian below.
Hi Cristian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I was in a my best friends’ bedroom, the summer of 8th grade. He took some guitar in middle school and had learned to play a couple of songs. He played, “Otherside” by the Chili Peppers, I started singing it. We did the whole song and when we finished, he looked at me and said “that was really good”. From that day forward I knew I was going to make music, and immediately started looking for bands.
Cristian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was in the shower one day and I liked the way I sounded when I sang, I was about 14. This was solicited when my friend who had guitar classes picked up an acoustic and played “Otherside”
I sang the whole song and after that I wanted to make music for the rest of my life.
I started a band at sixteen, and after we broke up, I began this project with one of my best friends from that band,
beatsmith Jose Machin. We made music together from 2012 up until 2019, and now with a new found joy for production and engineering, I am now doing everything on my own.
Hello, my name is Cristian Gomez and I sing for an alternative music project called The LOFT based in sunny Miami, Florida. I sing songs, make music, write lyrics and put them out for people to enjoy and relate to.
I’ve done this for some time, and have a pretty full catalogue going into this year.
I don’t know what sets me apart but I make music I love listening to,
I love listening to music, I make playlists based on different sounds and genres; so with this new stuff I feel like since I’m producing and engineering I’m able to add all my tastes, all my favorite sounds into my music. There is really no correct way to describe the sound and that makes it unique, one could hope.
Every record, EP, or album I’ve put out, I’m proud of, I’m proud of the hype we got on the internet when we first started, I’m proud that because of that hype I was able to book iii points back in 2015;
but most of all, I’m proud that I’m still doing this nearly a decade later, and that I’m much better than I was when I started, that the Hiatus I was forced to take when my team stepped away didn’t end my chase for the thing I want most in this life. By the way, the team that stepped away are still some of my best friends and I’ll always love them whole heartedly and what we made is out for the world to hear, those are a few of the things that I’m proud of.
The ending of 2022 heading into 2023 is shaping up to be a busy one; the long awaited album INFATUATION will finally be released after five years in the making, and there are six full EP’s following it; they’re nearly done; so this year I should be putting out as much music as I have in the last five years combined.
So I’m very excited and hope that my listeners are as well.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The desire to no longer struggle in life, I want to buy my mother a house and have her live right at her old age. I want to be good, not have the same financial woes, the immigrant cliche.
My love for music is what gets me to do it, I haven’t made much from music throughout the past decade but the reason I improve and the reason I chase is because I long to live a life where I don’t work 40 hrs a week and use the extra time for my passions, I want to live my passions.
I
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Putting something out to the world, literally creating something. I have many friends who don’t do art and they love what they do but I love the fact that someone in Brazil is a fan of mine and listens to my song Glass Walls everyday, that makes me feel full, like my life isn’t only for me. I just want to leave a trace of myself and my story behind, I chose this life a long time ago, and this shit isn’t easy; especially with bad “life” circumstances; we deal with it because the dream and the love and the idea of the reward is so fucking grand. They say if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.
If that’s true, then I’d like to stop working and start making music my everything.
