We recently connected with Crisha Bowen and have shared our conversation below.
Crisha , appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Thank you so much for thinking of me for this opportunity.
Taking a risk is not making an uninformed decision. Most people are afraid of risk because the approach is literally throwing themselves to the wind and letting the wind determine the direction in which they go.
When I left corporate to go full time into my business it wasn’t just taking a risk without knowing what my plan was. I had replaced my monthly income with my business revenue and realised my skill was able to generate income on demand based on my activity and input. You don’t only want to replace your income consistently, you have to have a surplus margin as well.
As an entrepreneur before taking the full time risk, income predictability is the first goal. You should ask yourself?
Does my idea have the ability to generate consistent monthly income that can meet my basic needs with excess to feed into the business needs?
I’ve seen so many people take the “risk” to dive head first into full time entrepreneurship without idea validation.
Does the market want this?
Do they want it from me?
What are the industry trends?
Is it a growing industry, stable industry or declining industry?
Do I have the infrastructure for predictable attraction, conversion, marketing and sales?
When I left my full-time job I had to be sure I had the ability to maintain my current lifestyle. It meant on demand, my business could generate income not on hope. There’s a saying that goes paraphrasing: give a man a fish and he eats for one day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime. I believe you need to teach the man to build a pond, so he can go fishing anytime he wants, produce excess fish, sell the fish and never go without.
To brace for the risk of a safe corporate salary to self employed entrepreneur income. I built my community Purpose Diaries for Purposeful Profitable Entrepreneurs first. I then created offers in progression so I could always have access to people at various parts in their journey either desiring to identify purpose or turning their purpose into a profitable online business with my specialty being course creation. I went from $30USD for 30 minutes in 2015 to now $1000USD per hour on a global scale attracting a 90% US client base. Though I call this jump a risk, it was a calculated, strategic and planned risk with the safety skill of business acumen and high value skills that are in demand in my industry of coaching, mentoring and online education.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

How’d you meet your business partner?
Social media has been one of the most powerful business connectors for me. I met my now business partner through social media. I was doing a project called Purpose University, somehow women gravitate quickly to the purpose message while men are slower to raise their hands for purpose assistance. I wanted a male that would have a strong presence and show purpose isn’t a gender topic. We partnered on that project which then led to working together in business and me becoming COO of his education and coaching company.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience was done by creating events. I call them growth event. I always wanted to ensure my free group got great value. Monthly I created themed events which attracted new followers and kept current followers engaged.
I suggest for anyone building on social, begin with “my story.” Speak candidly about why you’re sharing your message. Next create high value events around your topic and continuously grow from your message and your insights. Over time you will establish thought leadership on your topic.
